Alba Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 I'm kind of getting back into doing model cars ... I've built a few recently and I'm working on improving my skill. Unfortunately I wasn't gifted with the steadiest of hands so it's proving to be a little bit difficult getting good detail but I'm working on it. Here are a few pictures of my Nomad in progress.
Rob McKee Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Looks like you're off to a good start Rick. Just take your time and it will come together nicely for you.
Alba Posted July 24, 2012 Author Posted July 24, 2012 Thanks for the enouragment. Right now the body is soaking in a vat of LA's Totally Awesome. I may have put the paint on a little thick haha.
crazyjim Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Every build is a learning experience for the next one, Rick.
Alba Posted July 24, 2012 Author Posted July 24, 2012 I checked on the body and the old paint is coming off very nicely. Can't wait to see this in metal flake orange.
TooOld Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Don't give up ! Every mistake is a lesson learned . Keep us updated on your progress .
Alba Posted July 24, 2012 Author Posted July 24, 2012 I really must say ... looking around this forum, and including this thread ... you guys are the nicest group. I don't think I've seen one bit of negativity anywhere.
Alba Posted July 25, 2012 Author Posted July 25, 2012 Here are a few pics of the body. The paint didn't come out all that great as it was sprayed with a rattle can, but once the trim is finished I think it'll really make the body look great.
Monty Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Some paint issues (orange peel) can be fixed by using heat to make the paint flow out better. Several folks on here use food dehydrators to get better results, and I've even seen some low budget attempts (40W bulb in a cardboard box) that worked for the builder. How fresh is that paint and what issues are you having with it?
Alba Posted July 25, 2012 Author Posted July 25, 2012 That paint was pretty fresh ... I wasn't expecting a whole lot out of it ... and now that's it's dried even more it looks pretty decent. It's no show piece but once it's done it'll look good ... plus I'm going for more of the "hot rod" look so I think it'll work out ok.
Alba Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 A little update to the Nomad: It's not actually all glued together, but just a test fit of the body and to see how it looks. First time really using the Bare Metal Foil. A little wrinkly but I think it came out ok.
Rob McKee Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I think it is really looking good. Nice job on the BMF for a first attempt.
Colin Russell Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 It looks good to me also, the Nomads were great cars.
