Dr. Cranky Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 Here's a video UPDATE if you want to watch it.
H.A.K Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Dude that looks good like that. Hell you dont realy need to do anything eles to the body, if you didnt want to. The color and stance looks great like that.
Dr. Cranky Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 Samuel, thanks. You'll see in the next round of pictures why I don't leave well enough alone. LOL! Thanks for the comments.
crazyjim Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Oh my heart. The rust is getting me. Just kidding! Another interesting build coming our way. I like the look of the wheels.
Dr. Cranky Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 Thanks, Jim, the wheels came through nice because of the was I applied. I like the look too. Of course, I am still working on getting the chassis and the body right. Stay tuned in, there should be some progress pictures soon.
crazyjim Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 You know I'm not a rusty, dusty, crusty person, but I'm tuned in.
CemetaryAngel81 Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 I like both looks equally when done right,I think it looks great all patina'd out like that.
Dr. Cranky Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 Thanks, Jim and Lorenzo. I appreciate the input and the comments. Stay tuned in for more progress.
Dr. Cranky Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 All right, folks, some slow progress tonight. Yes, these are all the paints I am using so far on this build . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 (edited) You can go crazy using this many paints with the airbrush, although it's not so bad since most clean up with water and all window cleaning fluid . . . But the results, I think, are really spectacular. I don't care how many times I do this, it always feels like I am going off a cliff each and every time. Just trying to create some nice contrast between the parts . . . This is all straight out of the paint booth and the kitchen sink where I wash off the salt . . . with a soft bristle brush. I still have to apply washes and you know some of EYEGORE's gunk, funk, and junk. We are just starting to have some fun. Edited August 14, 2012 by Dr. Cranky
Dr. Cranky Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 A little stippling goes a long ways . . . Here's where I'm at with the interior (gee, wasn't I the one who said I would start with the engine?)
Dr. Cranky Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 Here's a detail shot of where the chassis is at: A rolling chassis:
Dr. Cranky Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 Just a couple more: I love the swooped back of this one: If you look closely you can see some where some of the paint has naturally flecked off . . . Stay tuned in for more.
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 This is truly an art form..........amazing effects.
Dr. Cranky Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 Thanks, everyone. This process is always what I would call losing my mind to the rust. Now the fun part begins of weathering and detailing it further and then building the thing. I would like to apply some graphics, and I am very tempted to put some flame decals on this one, but I have to see how it looks by testing it on one panel. Stay tuned in for more, and again, thank you for the generosity of spirit.
jdcar32 Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Hey Doc, I'm not a big fan of chopped '40's, they have great lines from the factory don't they? The grey/green factory colors are a little suttle for a rod, but look good with cream wheels/firewall ( a '40 has to have a contrasting or complimentary firewall ! ). The same goes for the maroons of 1940. They look good without hoods too, as long as those big honkin kit hood hinge slots are covered . Keep us posted .............
Dr. Cranky Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 Thanks, Jon. They sure do. I love this kit too. It's a great one. I plan on showing it with and without the hood. I am going to come up with something to cover those hinge slots.
Gothic Kustomz Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I gotta hand it to you Cranky, just some kill'r work on this. I'm a shiny man myself but, you have to give credit where, credit is due, inspiring work my friend......
