Bartster Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 You're right Harry, me included on this one. LOL That one got away from me! ......That eluded me as well 1st time l read it!
CorvairJim Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I think this whole Mars landing thing as an allusion, uh, ellusion, um, ILLUSION! It's just a hoax perpetrated by NASA, who got Harry to Photoshop it for them!
southpier Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 so as a population, "we" take credit for the accomplishments of a couple of dozen people? that sounds about right.
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 (edited) so as a population, "we" take credit for the accomplishments of a couple of dozen people? That's pretty funny, and sadly so very very accurate. Maybe more than "a couple of dozen", but it's an excellent point. I also tend to think the lack of engaged parents teaching children to tie shoes, communicate in basic English, and to tell time has little to do with the space program, but a lot to do with laziness and ignorance, which is still voluntary on the part of the lazy and ignorant. dustym Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 We have to find the Martian Indians first. Wouldnt that be Native Martians?
Harry P. Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 so as a population, "we" take credit for the accomplishments of a couple of dozen people? that sounds about right. No, we don't all take credit. But we all benefit.
Danno Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 No, we don't all take credit. But we all benefit. And we all paid for it ~ taxes provided the funding. I'd say "we" all had a role to play. That "couple of dozen people" didn't cover the costs from their own pockets.
Harry P. Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 So... to get back to the beginning of this thread, we did win the Olympics (if "winning the Olympics" means winning the most medals. And I think it does. )
CadillacPat Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 You mean "alluded" to. Good catch Harry!!!!!!!!!!! And also here where the guy used "are" instead of "our"---------We may be fat, but are teeth are better CadillacPat
Burnout Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I got a good laugh out of that poster and even shared it with a few friends. Unfortunately, there is an element of truth to the fat and stupid (read: poorly schooled) claim.
sjordan2 Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I just thought I'd attempt to make this pertinent to the forum.
Harry P. Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I just thought I'd attempt to make this pertinent to the forum. I thought we were talking about winning the Olympics and landing on Mars...
peter31a Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 We are. That's Marvin the Martian from the cartoons. Martian? Car- toons? Martian? Car? Applicable n'est pas?
Harry P. Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Marvin the Martian? Never heard of him. Ok, I googled it. Now I can say I've heard of him...
martinfan5 Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Marvin the Martian? Never heard of him. Ok, I googled it. Now I can say I've heard of him... What!!, you never heard of Marvin the martian?, how can that be?, I mean, you both are from the same planet  In all seriousness, did you never watch loony tunes?
Harry P. Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Yeah, I know Loony Tunes. But I've never heard of that character before.
zenrat Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 http://www.medalspercapita.com/ Woo hoo! 13th. And we're catching up fast with the fatness thing... Re the "Face on Mars". Modern higher resolution images of the same area reveal... ...nothing. It was an artifact of the relative crudeness of the imaging used back then (or, NASA are covering it up by photoshopping the new pics).
Jamez Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 http://www.medalspercapita.com/ USA : 49th. I think you lost
sjordan2 Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Yeah, I know Loony Tunes. But I've never heard of that character before.
moonmodler Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 I didn't see TANG on the list of worldly contributions from the space program. I'm just sayin'. LOL
peekay Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 So New Zealand beat America in the per capita score. (Notice I didn't say "beat the ###### out of" - that would sound boastful and arrogant).
Harry P. Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 But we beat China in the per capita score. And in the real score too.
peekay Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 I've since found out that New Zealand (pop. 4 million) was represented by 184 athletes. Average per country was 42 - puts a new slant on the per capita score.
