Jantrix Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Another build in the planning stages (LSR streamliner) and for this one I need a pair of flathead V8's. What kits have the BEST flatheads? No Arduns, I think they will be too wide. I have a Revell 32 Sedan and I think that has one. Resin recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Dr. Cranky Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 I just finished building the one that comes in the 1940 Ford (Revell kit) and it's very nice as well.
wrecker388 Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 The Monogram 50 F-1 has one. It is Molded in light blue plastic and showed a blue truck on the box. The box looks like this.
Fat Brian Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 The Revell 32 Tudor I believe has a good one, the Revell 50 Ford truck has a good one also and the custom version has chrome heads and optional Ardun heads. I would probably stick with those two as they have some custom parts, the others are completely stock I believe.
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 A little of the answer depends on how period-correct you want to get, too. There are visible differences among the various incarnations of flatheads. For instance, a well-funded race car in say, 1953, would probably run the '49-'53 block, which has a different bellhousing and a normal-looking distributor in front on an angle-drive and shaft, instead of the unit stuck down with the pulleys. That ignition setup can be added to earlier engines and often was. There are also many finned alloy heads available in kits...Edelbrock, Navarro, Offenhauser.......
Jantrix Posted September 6, 2012 Author Posted September 6, 2012 I have this small scale submarine that my son built years ago and is now a broken mess. It is a little long for a traditional drop tank salt flat racer, but I thought why not put two engines in it, and just go with it? I figure a pair of nice flatties with some speed equipment would be ideal. As a completely fictional racer, period-correctness isn't an issue. So feel free to make recommendations for my fictional salty, I'd appreciate any input.
Longbox55 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Replicas and Minatures of Maryland has a very nice Flathead, with all of the components available separatley so you can mix and match to get the setup you want.
Deathgoblin Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 The IMC/Testors 48 fords have a really nice flathead.
