Terror Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 For some reason when I try a rust build, it always looks to me like a glue bomb that needs restoration. so I'm trying something a lil different with this one. Not a grain of salt was used on this one.I'm trying a surface rust look that I have always wanted to do but didn't have the skills for, not sure if I have the skills now but this is what I have come up with so far that I like the results on the hood. The body has the base coat. Then I'll polish it and then spray the rust on and polish off what I don't want rusty. On the hood I used car wax in place of salt then wiped it away.Well thats it for now Thanx for stopping by.
slusher Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 It does look like lite surface rust, not over done..
TooOld Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Interesting . So you waxed the base coat and then sprayed a rust color over it ?
Terror Posted September 7, 2012 Author Posted September 7, 2012 Interesting . So you waxed the base coat and then sprayed a rust color over it ? Let me clear that up. Basically yes, but where I wanted rust I wiped away the wax first, then sprayed the rust, then wiped all the wax off.Insert karate kid line here. I sprayed the hood rust from 2 or 3 ft. away. Thanks for the comments guys.
Dr. Cranky Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Terry, I like it, it looks like you are getting some good, subtle effects. Are you sanding the top coat to expose a rust coat? That works well too, especially if you are using enamels.
Terror Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Thanks Doc.Got the body started and the miles of foiling .Ground off the clunky plate frames from the bumpers. Thanks for stopping by.
Chuck Most Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 The surface rust effect looks very nice- and realistic. Gotta ask- is the car going to sit that low when it's finished? (Please say yes! )
Draggon Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 That weathering is amongst the best I've seen. Fantastic work!!
Albie D Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 I like your weathering idea. Perfect patina.
Edward Gore Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 New technique to you ans new to me too. However, it's looking super realistic
