For some reason when I try a rust build, it always looks to me like a glue bomb that needs restoration. so I'm trying something a lil different with this one. Not a grain of salt was used on this one.I'm trying a surface rust look that I have always wanted to do but didn't have the skills for, not sure if I have the skills now but this is what I have come up with so far that I like the results on the hood. The body has the base coat. Then I'll polish it and then spray the rust on and polish off what I don't want rusty. On the hood I used car wax in place of salt then wiped it away.Well thats it for now Thanx for stopping by.

Interesting . So you waxed the base coat and then sprayed a rust color over it ?

Let me clear that up. Basically yes, but where I wanted rust I wiped away the wax first, then sprayed the rust, then wiped all the wax off.Insert karate kid line here. I sprayed the hood rust from 2 or 3 ft. away. Thanks for the comments guys.

Terry, I like it, it looks like you are getting some good, subtle effects. Are you sanding the top coat to expose a rust coat? That works well too, especially if you are using enamels.
