But it does get confusing - especially in a recent case of a poll from a year and a half ago that can't be acted on. And there are other recent examples of bringing back threads from five years ago and more. This is what has been called "zombie threads." It would be good if the person who reactivates an old thread would do the courtesy to your fellow members to identify the fact that this is an old thread, and from when. Otherwise, much confusion ensues.
martinfan5 Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 I am saying this in a nice way , but I think you are making big deal over something that means very little, I am kind of liking seeing some old threads pop up, I have been enjoying seeing builds on here that I have not seen before. Its very easy , all you have to do is look at the dates on the posted replys to see if its current or not, I dont think we need to try and make people explain why they are replying to a old thread. Just enjoying looking at the eye candy and enjoy the hobby, dont sweat the small stuff on here, life is to short
CEKPETHO BCE Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 To be fair, there IS a time stamp on every post... I like seeing some old threads coming back. Sometimes I bring back old threads when I see an amazing model that has been posted years ago and I feel like it's worth sharing.

Bold by me...and I agree. I understand Skip's intent (at least I think I do), and it would be a courtesy to add an "I know this is an old topic, but..." along with the new reply, but I don't think it's discourteous in any way if the "bumper" chooses to simply reply. Old topics, new topics, it doesn't really matter IMHO. There will always be people who are confused.

And I can agree with that as well, the only way to stop old threads coming back from the dead would be to lock all of them.

Skip did not say he was trying to make people explain why they are replying to a old thread. (sic). He merely asked that they note in their reply that they are. Not an unreasonable or grumpy request.

Yes I know that, I worded that part wrong, my mistake I mean , so if someone replys to some ones thread in under glass, they are going to compliment the builder on his build, then he will explain why he posted in a old thread by saying, I wanted to compliment the builder Please guys, do not take this the wrong way, I am being a smart arse, but I think most of the time, I think the reason why a person posted in a old thread is already there, just read what was posted And agian, I am not disagreeing with what Skip is asking either, there is nothing wrong with what he is suggesting Edited September 17, 2012 by martinfan5
Aaronw Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 I don't know the mechanism to do it, but on one non-model related forum necro is added to the title to let people know it is an old post raised from tbe dead. (Necro being short for necromancer a wizard that creates zombies and such). Since it appears in the title you know right away it is a very old post.

Who cares if an old post is brought back from the dead, surely it's up the the readers to READ the dates BEFORE entering a poll or posting something, it's easy for the polls, if it hasn't been closed and someone can still vote then said poll is still valid...

Guest Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 I'm not being a smart aleck,but the date a thread is started is directly below the title. You don't even have to click on it to see when it was started. For instance,before I even clicked on this thread,I knew it was started yesterday.

Said poll was no longer valid because it was created to select a club's best models in 2011. It took an astute member to point out to a number of members who wanted to cast a vote that the revived post was old, closed and obsolete. But the pictures were great to see again. Maybe we should take a poll to find out what percentage of members pay attention to the origination date when they see a thread title of interest. 2. And this snarky comment is making this place get better...how? Okay, I ASSUME that most threads are fairly recent, and I will save you from saying, "You know what 'I assume' means...?"
