2002p51 Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I just got the Revell '50 Oldsmobile and I really can't use that engine! Not in the car that is. It would be a shame to hide this beautiful engine under a closed up hood. So the '50 Olds will be built curbside with the hood glued shut and this engine will go into some sort of hoodless hot rod so it can be seen. I'm thinking maybe a '32 5-window coupe. The color is Model Master British Green Metallic and the intake, carbs, and alternator came from my parts box.
bryan_m Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 wow! very nice work. that engine looks good, i cant wait to snag a couple of those kits cheers bryan

Ace-Garageguy Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Nice touch runnin' the plug wires like 1:1. Nice wood stand too.
Foxer Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I had a thread I started about the lack of detailed carburetors not long ago ... Revell just shut me up!
1972coronet Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 That's one beautiful engine ! Beautiful work ! Am I seeing things , or is that an alternator on that 1950 engine ??
Dave Mikrut Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Youre right about it making a great hot rod engine, it needs to be seen, nice work!
Gluhead Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I think there's going to be a LOT of '50 Olds' running around the benches with SBC's!
2002p51 Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 Am I seeing things , or is that an alternator on that 1950 engine ?? Sure, why not? I have an alternator on both of my flathead powered 1:1 cars. This model engine is destined for a street rod so the alternator is appropriate.
Chuck Most Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Same idea I have in mind- at least one of those Rockets built totally stock will end up in an early '20's Olds roadster based on the Beverly Hillbillies kit. I plan on doing some workbench research on that engine pretty shortly- seeing how the existing Olds speed parts from old AMT and Revell kits adapt to it.

In case you missed it, see post #285 in the Olds kit review thread. I already did enough "workbench research" to verify that all of the available speed parts will adapt easily.

Can't let you have ALL the fun, can I?
disabled modeler Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Very nice!... I think Id have to do the car as a curb-side too....I am good with curb-sides myself.

This model engine is destined for a street rod so the alternator is appropriate. Until I saw the engine that Len and Bill were building , I thought that Revell had messed up by putting an alternator in place of the generator (e.g. , I thought that being presented as being a factory-stock piece by Revell) .

camarofreak82_427 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I think a diaroma would be cool put the xar in a garge with the hood off n the moyor on the stand next to it
