IMSANUT Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Its weird how things turn out some times. I had done an evilbay purchase of a pair of 1/24th Porsche slot bodies that both arrived trashed. The seller offered up something I thought I'd never find on this side of the pond. It was a very rough but very accurate Series three E-type Jaguar that was the spitting image of this car: I had wanted to build this beast for quite some time, and now I have my chance! It will be a curbside using Fred Cady decals, AMT minilites and slicks and such from the parts bin. Here is a pic of the basics I have gotten together for the project: This will be this winters project. I'll be adding photos, both of the project as it progresses and pictures of the real car I took when I saw it at Sebring a few years ago. The body is going to need considerable work to fill voids in the casting, as well as adding various bits of trim, especially around the head light buckets and cockpit opening. Also, the missing rear tail lights will have to be scratch built. All in all, it will be a fun task, and I'll have a very cool model to place on the shelf that few have in 1/24th scale. I hope all will enjoy.
Modlbldr Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 SCORE!!! Gotta love it when it works out. Can't wait to watch this come together. Later-
IMSANUT Posted October 23, 2012 Author Posted October 23, 2012 Dove into cleaning up the resin body this afternoon a bit. Very hard and brittle gray resin. Was going to take a few more pics, but ran out of battery in the camera...... Yes, it is interesting and uplifting when things come together. I'd seen the slot body on a couple of German slot car sites over the years, but it turned out to be long OOP. It's going to be a fun one doe sure!
sjordan2 Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 This seems like a nice kit that's going to be a one-of-a-kind build. Looks like the windscreen has a green tint - any idea on how to accomplish that?
IMSANUT Posted October 23, 2012 Author Posted October 23, 2012 If I remember correctly, Tamiya has a transparent green acrylic. I do lnow they have both blue and yellow in their transparent line, so I may have to mix it. And yes, it will be a one of a kind thing. Acutally, I have about 8 different Group 44 builds planned, ranging from the Renaissance XJR-5 IMSA GTP to an MG-B. This is the first one I've started though I have the rest stashed ready to work on.
Modlbldr Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Yes, Tamiya does make a clear green. I have a bottle of it, if you need a number. Later-

Tamiya's transparent green acrylic is X-25. From what I can see, X-5 and X-15 are very close matches for the greens along the bottom of the car. http://www.hobbylinc...str_s=green&p=2 X-5 and X-15 are also available in two different sizes, depending on how much you think you'll need.
IMSANUT Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 Here is a picture of the front and rear undersides showing the extent of air pocket filling required. Also, the front splash pan is going to require considerable work.....
