Ace-Garageguy Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 (edited) Thanks one and all for the interest and comments. Nothing too exciting, just a little strip of glass cloth and epoxy to insure the roof seam doesn't crack... And a fill of epoxy / cotton flock along the fender seams. Now I can get horsey with the rest of the bodywork with no danger of disaster. Edited May 6, 2013 by Ace-Garageguy
Ken Kitchen Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Thanks one and all for the interest and comments. Ace-Garageguy Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 Where might I find the glass cloth that you are using? Ken, this particular cloth is marketed for RC model planes. A good hobby shop should have it.
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Man,I keep having to come back and drool over this...
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 7, 2014 Author Posted August 7, 2014 (edited) Finally picked a color, so I'm inspired to get this one moving again. Removed the peak from the hood... ...and shot color to see what she'd look like. This is as-shot, no clear, and I'll put the hood on the body for the final color coat to insure even color... customsrus Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Another great looking car, keep up the great work. Color looks great, what is it?
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 7, 2014 Author Posted August 7, 2014 Color looks great, what is it? It's Duplicolor rattlecan BTY 1603 Dark Green Mica (Toyota 6M2), over Plasticoat light gray primer. The Duplicolor "mica" has a fairly fine flake...not scale-correct by any means, but better than many colors out there. It's also somewhat iridescent in daylight.
Byron5150 Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Looking great man. Great sanding and filling and epoxy job as well. I look forward to this build
Sixx Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome cars! Nice bodywork too! :-)
wayne swayze Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Man,I keep having to come back and drool over this... X2!! What great work!
dragzz Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 it looking good so far i like the color on the hood
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 Thank you all for the kind compliments. I removed most of the chrome for a "shaved" look, but the window surrounds and the beltline molding will stay. They'll have to be foiled, and it will be my first attempt.
BKcustoms Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Looking great so far! The color looks perfect. This makes me want to get mine back out and finish it!
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 That's a really nice color you picked out for this... Can't wait to see the rest of the car in paint!
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 Once again, thanks for the interest and comments. I'm trying to keep going on this one, and there isn't much bodywork left to do. I'm probably dragging it out, subconsciously, because I'm a little apprehensive about buggering the paint with my first foil job.
my80malibu Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Bill the most difficult part to foil, would be the spot on the rear fender.the remaining should be very straightforward.
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 Bill the most difficult part to foil, would be the spot on the rear fender.the remaining should be very straightforward. ...Which is one of the reasons I'm shaving the rear fenders on this one, as well as most of the side molding... to minimize what I'll have to deal with. I've got so much effort in the top swap that I don't want to spoil the build at the end by buggering the foil work, so I'm trying to leave as little on the car to be foiled as I possibly can.
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 2, 2014 Author Posted October 2, 2014 (edited) Not a lot happening, but I've about finished the body fill where the fastback roof section was grafted. Using masking tape to control where the filler gets to, to minimize sanding and shaping. This side's about ready for primer, chrome shaved, rear window surround thinned (the AMT kit is really thick back there), and the rear quarter window enlarged to match the Olds. Started opening the rear deck too. Edited October 2, 2014 by Ace-Garageguy
Andy Oldenburg Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 Wonderful project! Better to stop asap and take the better road. I love how this turns into a double build. Will you make the colors match in the end?
