Terry Sumner Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 Had a bear of a time with this one only because of two things...bad Alclad and bad decals. The Alclad at first wrinkled up badly...my fault because I didn't allow the basecoat to dry thoroughly. Stripped it and on the second go around it came out good. Except it never really hardened up the way it should. I believe I had some of the old Alclad that was bad! And then the decals fell all apart in the water. These were the kit decals. Long story with these but to make it short I saved them by painting Microscale's Liquid Decal Film over the top of them. Then used them like any other decal. For those who don't know...during the Korean War, all the P-51's were redesignated as F-51's. No change in the airplane...just the name. http://www.fotki.com'>Hosted on Fotki http://www.fotki.com'>Hosted on Fotki http://www.fotki.com'>Hosted on Fotki The cockpit before the wings were on etc. (easier to see it this way) http://www.fotki.com'>Hosted on Fotki
cobraman Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Looks good to me. Just about my favorite old warbird.
roadhawg Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Looks great, Terry. I'm impressed by your NMF paint jobs.....I'm trying to gather up the courage to try it again myself.
george 53 Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 What scale is it? Mustangs were BEAUTIFUL airplanes.
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Beautiful build, beautiful airplane. If I remember correctly, Moshe Dayan had an all-black one for a while as his personal aircraft.
Terry Sumner Posted December 4, 2012 Author Posted December 4, 2012 This is the Tamiya 1/48 scale kit. Thanks guys...the natural metal finish is tough to do. And this time made tougher from the bad Alclad. I'll get some new stuff for the next one!
