Inkjet printing on BMF?

Has anyone tried inkjet printing on BMF? It would be good to be advised about any necessary prep or post-printing treatments that might be necessary. I have some black scripts and other things I want to put on chrome without going the decal route.

I never thought about it. I don't think the foil would do well in the feed rollers of a printer.

Won't work....the ink just beads up. Even if you did get a good print you'd have to clearcoat it, thus losing the full BMF effect.

Can be done with a laser printer. In fact they have foils designed for use with laser, but none for inkjet

Already tried this when another post asked the same question. The ink printed out okay but did not dry. I'll try to find the thread...

You can, however, cut foil - there is a building this site, a Cadillac I think, using foil in a cutter.

I've tried printing directly to BMF with an Alps printer and it does not work. Isn't there a waxy layer on BMF so that it shines up when you buff it? That waxy layer would inhibit just about anything from sticking to it properly.

I've been using BMF since 1970 (when it was first introduced) and never experienced any sort of coating on top of the original chrome BMF.

you can print the decals on clear decal paper than apply it over bmf ...

Bright chrome surfaces do not lend themselves well as a background or substrate for showing InkJet Decals.

The chrome is actually too dark for good color transfer.

Did you try entering your printer settings at Glossy Photo Paper for the slick surface of the BMF??

BMF does not work very well with a laser printer (I tried it). Using one of the foils secifically made for printing on might be a better route.

I did just that for several emblems that I did for an MGBGT and they looked very good.
