Ajay Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 (edited) I've always loved traditional style kustoms & now the waiting is over (living across the pond has it's disadvantages) and I've got my hands on 1 (well 4 actually) of these kits - God bless Jack @ Model Roundup & airmail . This first one will be pretty much oob to see how everything goes together. The only change to the body is that I've filled the front turn signals. The wheels are made up of the kit supplied steelies together with Modelhaus (?) single bar hollywood hubcaps & Galaxie 48 Fleetline tyres. Paint is Nissan Magnetic Black Pearl but the pearl effect is difficult to capture. At the moment I haven't started the suspension so the wheel is just resting on the inner wheelwell for photo purposes. Thanks for looking Andy Edited September 19, 2007 by Ajay
Matt T. Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Perfection! I like the stance just like that. Love the wheelcovers too. How did you trim out the frenched bezels? They look great. I just got a machined aluminum set from Bob Dudek and they're nice too.
mikelo Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Great start! I like how this one is shaping up. I am sure it will be of your fine quality of builds. I'll be looking for the next ones also.

Thanks Matt They're just the stock headlights but I painted the inner rim silver to replicate the bezel - I did think about cutting some aluminium tubing to fit but hadn't got any big enough. Cheers Andy
Tom Kren Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Very nice how did ya get it that low LOVE IT!
Ajay Posted September 12, 2007 Author Posted September 12, 2007 (edited) Very nice how did ya get it that low LOVE IT! Thanks Tom - at the moment there's no chassis installed so it's just sitting on the body - I think the kit suspension will need lowering to get the ride height that I want but looks as though it should be fairly simple - we'll see !. I've started work on the engine & replaced the kit valve covers with ones from the Monogram 59 Cadillac kit & swapped the kit supplied aircleaners with a resin one from Replica & Minatures. Thanks for looking Andy Edited September 13, 2007 by Ajay
Ajay Posted September 13, 2007 Author Posted September 13, 2007 Just a couple of pics of the engine sprayed Tamiya Blue To pick out the cadillac lettering on the valve covers I covered the script with Bare Metal Foil before spraying & then polished down to the BMF with a 1200 polishing cloth. Interior's also been sprayed in Humbrol matt blue/semi gloss black. Thanks for looking Andy
VW Dave Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Andy - The low-low stance of that one really looks the business....it would be cool if you got it that low after adding the chassis. Very cool!
Ajay Posted September 15, 2007 Author Posted September 15, 2007 (edited) Just a quick preview of my 2nd build which uses Replicas & Minatures Buick headlights & side trim which is a look I've always been partial to - needs a bit more work around the headlight bezels to mould them in properly. This one will have a flathead. Thanks for looking Andy Edited September 15, 2007 by Ajay
ratrodder Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Now that is the way these Mercs need to sit in the front, LOW! I like! ratrodder doug
Matt T. Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Second one looks great too, Andy! I have those Reps & Mins headlights too. Good to see they work so well on there. Flathead...oh yeah.
RodBurNeR Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 nice job(s)! that really looks slick in black! your next one is killin' it too! i need to get on mine soon.
novadose71 Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Both of those look great so far! I bought the kit but unfortunately won't be able to start on it anytime soon, too many other projects going, but it will stay close to the top of the pile. Meanwhile I'll watch yours and all the others.
Ajay Posted September 17, 2007 Author Posted September 17, 2007 Thanks for the comments guys - just a quick update pic of the 99% completed engine - transmission just needs painting. Cheers Andy
Zoom Zoom Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Nice work on both of 'em This is going to be the Revell kit of the decade. Haven't seen anything like this from them since the '32 Fords and their Integra Type R. It's a rare kit that hits the sweet spot so well and is built by so many different modelers, including ones that are building outside of their usual subject matter and comfort zone.

You are right about that Bob, I never really build these lead sleds myself but just to think about how beautiful a good paintjob will go on this model with all that available surface, who wouldn't try one?
Ajay Posted September 18, 2007 Author Posted September 18, 2007 Turned my attention to lowering the suspension as imo the "stock" suspension provided in the kit sits too high. To lower the ride height the mounting points for the metal axles have been moved up into the arches by cutting the front & rear suspension peices and adding styrene. Hopefully pics will explain better: Front Rear Dry run with the revised front & rear suspension pieces in place. Much better imo Thanks for looking Andy
Ajay Posted September 19, 2007 Author Posted September 19, 2007 Just a couple of pics of the completed suspension & interior. Thanks for looking Andy
Modellpularn Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 (edited) Andy, the black one looks very good! In fact, I like it better without the wheelcovers, looks meaner this way. Now you just need some bad ass dudes to fill the interior, or stand around it......smoking. Cool! The second one will be a cool one as well. Nice touch with the Buick headlights. Ohhh, I have to get this kit..... Edited September 19, 2007 by Modellpularn
bsoder Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Those are going great Andy..I'm building one for my bro-in-law now, but I'll definately do one for myself
Guido Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 These are awesome...I'm building a 40 Ford right now, but one of these are on the list!
