kennb Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 I finally got the wore wheels to come out right. As per a suggestion i used wire, the only kind I have is from a pair of vcr connection wires that i tore apart. the wire is finer that human hair but the results are astonishing. I was able to tighten up the weave and fill it together properly. sometimes it takes a while for things to work out right, You just have to keep at it and trying different things intill it is right. I thought the fishing line was small enuff dia, but was so big all it did was get in the way. I just resorted to trying the electrical wire out of frustration since i thought it would be far too small. But look at the rerult. It surprised me so much and made it all fall together. Thanks so much to those that are following the build. Kenn
gtx6970 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) ps, the new wheels look jaw dropping real I ck in on this from time to time. And I have to keep reminding myself this is entirely scratchbuilt. amazing is a huge understatement Edited March 7, 2013 by gtx6970
kennb Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 put a little color to the body this morning. Taped it up and got the bug sprayer out again. Kenn SLOWLY STARTING TO COME TOGETHER...................

sjordan2 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I don't think this has been covered, or at least I haven't been able to find it...what scale is this?
kennb Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 It is about 1/20th scale..................I have a ruler by some of the posts to give size,,,,total length is about 11" bumper to bumper. Kenn
codie27 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Lacing your own wire wheels....YOU Sir are crazy!! They look great. This build thread is awesome keep it coming.
Harry P. Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 When you say you're breaking out the bug sprayer... are you saying you literally use a bug sprayer to paint with? Wow, even your "airbrush" is scratchbuilt!
kennb Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 A few more to show approximate size of model. I spent some time today redesigning the wheels for the upcoming K3............ I will show how they are done when I get to the K3.. Kenn
LacrosseBoss Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Wheels are INCREDIBLE! I've been following almost since the beginning and the process has been long but it's paying off. Keep it up.
Pro Wrench Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I've been following this build since before I was even a registered member and have been very impressed with everything I have seen you do but those wire wheels are something to behold. You should consider a tutorial on how to do that. As it is, I am going to have to study those particular posts in great detail to completely understand how to do it and get those kind of results.
GeeBee Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Superb work, keep it going, I really like the work your doing, and a fine British car as well .....
kennb Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 (edited) Finished steering wheel. It is a little rough but will only be seen from a distence since the inside will be enclosed so I think it will show just fine, The following are the outside door handles, I made them up in pairs the will be cut apart later, Thanks to all that are following this build. Will be painting some green today and finishing the engine. I am also working on getting together the K3, that will have a lot more information and have a lot more of how to's along with it. Kenn Edited March 8, 2013 by kennb
kennb Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 (edited) few minor details...air valves on the wire wheels, which most people will never see. I have the major componets of the engine painted and ready to assemble and detail out now...Block is the same color as the body, British Racing Green. Kenn Edited March 8, 2013 by kennb
kennb Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 have some paint splashed on the fenders to check the colors........this is still a dry fit. assembly is still down the road a bit. Thanks to all those that are keeping track of the build...............I know it is taking a long time but it is comming together more now and in about a week I might be done. A lot of little details to do and have to send off more lights and trim to the chrome shop...................... Kenn
kennb Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 dry fit in color,,,nothing much more................... Thanks for watching...................................... Kenn
kennb Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 I am going to let the paint dry a few days before much else gets done..... Kenn
vintagedragfan Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Kenn you are doing some fine work, looking fantastic!
charlie8575 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 The paint really helps. Anyone not impressed by this is either in the wrong hobby or simply has no appreciation for hard work. Charlie Larkin
