I read scripts on and off, and read a script from another guy who did a story about Mickey Thompson. It wasn't any good, nor did he have any rights to the story, so I crushed him like a bug. ;)

Good luck with that, it's a tought racket. I know first hand, and have some connections in Hollywierd.

Hi, my name's Ron, and I have a hobby. A couple of hobbies. I don't build as I should. The 1:1s are taking up my free time at the moment.

Anyway, Menlo Park, California. Most of my 50 years. Single, with pets and cars. Several cars. And car models.

First model, an AMT '64 Ford Convert.

Fav model growing up, MPC Jeepster. Bought a full size model while looking for the 1/25 Jeepster about ten years ago. I think it shows up in the margin.

Another fav was the Little Red Wagon, built stock and again with 4WD. Don't have the models any more, but, once again, bought a full scale A100 model, posted below. 1964, 340/727. It needs plenty of tinkering, but overall, WAY too much fun!

HEY STEVE, thanks, for the club and the shows. And I look forward to helping out with the show March 1st, 2008! Whatever you need.

Hi...my name is Brendan Howden. I've been building models for over 20 years. I live in Brookings OR which is right on the coast less than 8 miles from the CA/OR state line. I used to live in Saratoga, CA which is near San Jose. Brookings is completely different from what I was used to growing up in CA. It's a small town atmosphere. One of the big differences is the weather. During the winter it rains constantly. Not uncommon to have several inches in a short time. Alse during the summer you could have one day of 100 degree weather and the very next day be in the low 60's. Makes it hard to paint sometimes.

My main interests in modeling are race cars, mainly prototypes (Le Mans style) and the more modern cars usually 24th and 12th scale. I'm a pretty fast builder. I'm fairly knowledgeable about race cars. If anyone has a question, send me a message. I'm really easy going about sharing information about model building and I have no problems trying to help people out if I can.

A show where you'll usually see me is at NNLWest. It's one of the few contests that I make every year. Perhaps I'll see you there.

My name is Robert Hughes, I'm 40 years old and I live in Augusta, GA with my Wife of 22 years and my younger son(14). I have an older son that lives in Hawaii with his wife and MY new grand daughter!

I don't post much to forums but, I spend a lot of time reading them(especially Billy's post to this thread! ).

I started building models when I was about 9 years old. I remember walking the road sides looking for redeemable bottles for money to buy the next kit. :P Anyway I built most of my childhood and stopped a couple years after I got married. At that time I packed away everything that I had with the hopes of returning someday. Someday ended up being around mid-2003. I found a couple modeling forums on the net and decided to join in on the fun. The first model I build was a 55 Cameo truck, which I still have on my desk. Doesn't look great but, it was fun! That was my first attempt at foil and it turned out OK. The next kit was a Revell 67 Charger. This time I added flocking and a few wires and hoses. It turned out to look pretty decent and I was totally HOOKED!

Then it was time to pull out one of the old models I had retired years before. This would be one of the Fujimi Enthusiast Dino kits that were rereleased by Testors. This time I polished paint and tried a few other things. It was a bit of a challenge but, I managed to finish it. By this time I had met a few guys from modeling forums and made some cool friends at the same time. One of the guys mentioned a show that was in his area which was the Cincinnati Challenge. I'm thinking ROADTRIP, my wife says, "you want to drive 9 hours to Ohio to look at models?" Reacting quickly, I say, "I figured Joey(my younger son) and I would take a trip together and give you time to yourself. Worked like a charm! When we got there I couldn't believe that this many people were so serious about building models. My stuff wasn't near as nice as the tables of cars I saw that day. I took two cars, the Charger and the Dino I built. I talked to a lot of great guys and that hooked me for life. I haven't been able to get back up there but, I do attend the NNL South show every year.

I look forward to meeting more great folks from here.

My name is Raul Perez. I'm just a gray hair or two past 50 and have been modeling since AMT kits were $1.25. I remember riding my bike to the local Rexall Drug store in Sunnyvale whenever I had saved enough $$ to buy a new kit. Back then I only bought a new kit AFTER I finshed whatever I had been working on...what a concept...

I was a professional autobody repairman for 10 years and have continued to do it on the side for about 25 years, which is probably why I struggle with not wanting to modify the body on almost every model I build.

In my 20s I built almost all of the 1:12th scale Tamiya Formula One cars, switching off between building that same old Ford engine over and over by throwing in the occasional Ferrari and Matra. I also built a lot of the 1:16th scale Bandai classics that were rereleased under the ENTEX brand. Over the years I've traded them all away for more kits.

Since I've been "married with children" for almost 25 years I've downsized my collection to mostly 1:24th and 1:25th scale. I dare say that I have too many Danbury Mint diecast cars, but everytime I do they come out with another great pro-street, hot rod, vintage classic...

These days I've been building a lot of "Pro Touring" type of models like the one I use for my avatar. It's a 57 Chevy pickup done in a Corvette theme that I built for the '07 Santa Clara NNL. As I recall, Gregg and Steve really liked it. I know that Rex did. It'll be interesting to see how much you guys like the Revell '49 Merc that I'm building in a "Pro-Touring" theme. It's got the interior, engine, tires, wheels...from a '97 Mustang Cobra SVT with only very minor body mods. It's painted Plum Crazy with a light gray interior. Quite a radical departure from all of the other ones I've seen posted on the forum...

Well, that's enough from me for now. Time to get that '49 Merc finished before the next NNL...

Doug Here 37 single, I have a 10 year old son that lives with me full time. I’m an estimator/project manager for a medium sized commercial millwork facility in Southern Maine. I have more hobbies then time and money warrants. RC Planes, Helicopters, cars. 1:1 Jeeps, dirt bikes, 4 wheelers and ultra light planes to name a few. I also have a good friend with an open class Rally car that runs the Rally America circuit, I crew and we do road trips throughout the year.

This winter has been extremely harsh in our region and my son received a few snap kits for Christmas, he is into Muscle car era Mopar and we have been spending the winter bunkered down in front of the fire place exploring 1:24th / 1/25th cars. I have a stash of older stuff from my dads youth that I hope to tackle once I have the talent.

So where is my white chip? :P

Im Andrea but most people call my Ani (pronounced Annie but I dont like extra letters in names). I have built models in the past and have from time to time helped Clay and often give my input on color. I am a stay at home mom to a beautiful 16 month old boy named David and am pregnant with a little girl whos name will be Amelia. I have been married to Clay for 3 years and in addition to your 2 legged human child(ren) we also have 2 cats and 1 dog.

I grew up around Studebakers (this is where Clay gets his love for them from) and VW's and was an only child and a daddy's girl and helped him work on the cars. I love to take pics and i also love to look at everyones wonderful work and give positive feed back and encouragement.

I also help run a Military wives support site (not limited to just wives, we also have girlfriends and sisters and have from time to time had some mothers).

Any questions please feel free to ask

m408 aka Milt Meyer. 75 year old father of two, grandfather of three.

Was into model car building back in the early 60s. No air brushes, BMF, PE parts, pre-wired distributers, etc... Just Testors tube glue and brushed paint. I actually won a model car show once because my Bantem drag car had spark plugs made out of painted round tooth picks with ignition wires of heavy thread soaked in glue.

Anyhow, what with family raising, working, etc... I gave the hobby up.

A year ago last XMAS, my youngest son remembered that I had built model cars in the past and had my two youngest grand daughters give me a couple of kits. WOW!!! Talk about your glue bomb disasters. Same old build style. Tube glue and brushed paint.

Then I happened on MCM. Subscribed, and joined the forum. Have met a whole lot of great folks on line who are willing to offer tips, hints, and ideas.

I have always enjoyed working with my hands. Model car building allows me to do that. I can spend my spare time doing something that I enjoy and at the end, see physical evidence of my labor. Show quality? Not a chance, but each one gets just a little bit better.

Oh wait.......wrong topic.. ;):P I'm 17, love building models, I know, weird for my age and in this generation, I like motorsports, and older SCCA/rally/hillclimb type racecars, Le Mans type, you get it. ;) I'm also big inot RC's I currently don't have one but I am trying to sell my one to get my project going. Anything else just ask, just don't ask Lyle or Dan Peterson!

Hi, My name is Clay Jones, I am married to a wonderful wife, Ani, who occasionally lets me get a model here and there. I have a son, David, who I hope will get into this so he can build with his old man, I have a daughter on the way, Amelia. No plans for her yet ;) . I have in the United States Marine Corps for almost 6 years, July 22 will be my 6 year mark and another pay raise ;) , I have made it to the best rank, Sergeant, now I can tell those little pissants at the gates the "blank" off :o . I have been into models off and on for as long as I can remember, I am only 24 but my memory is shot along with my body. I build mostly 1:25, because thats all I have been exposed to. I am into muscle cars, trucks, and really anything, and yes I have even built a NASCAR here and there. Well i have taken too much of this topic. Back to building.

Hello, I'm Rodney Badger.

A Zukiholic and a Plastaholic.

and I come from a 1:1 Mopar Family.

Been Building Model cars (1/25-1/24th)since I was 11.

Was on a looong break from doing so but always tried to keep up on current kits.

(God knows we hate to not have the one we want when it's gone)

Probably have (let's just say) a Lot of kits, I don't remember what I have (90% are still boxed up)

Now I'm a local Truck driver of building supplies and the housing market is not good lately.

I'm very open minded.

A car is a car.

A model is a Model.

Love is Love.

Love them all.

Big and small.

Okay, more small than big. ;)

Right now I'm on a Suzuki and Sub-compact Import building kick.

It has refueled my interest to get back in the game after realizing there is a Board for Model building.

(DUh, there is a board for everything now)

I'm computer illiterate.

I have every Issue of ModelCars (picked up one today)

My life is interesting to a fault.

but I enjoy every day of it.

Just wait till Halloween :lol::D

(no)

I also ramble on sometimes.

And

Thank you Jones and all Men and Women in the Service for your Services..

My Older Bro just retired after 22 years.

With the incredible growth over the last few months I've also noticed that the talent level has increased accordingly.

Don't worry, I'm here to bring that talent level back down where it was

Simon, 31, living in Kent in the UK. Work in the videogames industry. Started building model planes when I was 7, mainly because my older brother was into them, and chose a Matchbox 1/72 Canberra. Had a soft spot for Canberras ever since! My first car build would be an Esci Renault 5 police car, a Christmas present from the neighbours when I was 7 or 8. Dodgy paint, terrible panel gaps and wonky front wheels - the level of realism was astonishing :D (Apologies to any Renault fans). Next up amongst many planes was a Revell Hot Road magazine edition 79 Mustang which I made a better job of (but could never figure out why it looked like no other 79 Mustang anywhere - turns out to be a McClaren Mustang). Then my first 'real' effort when I was 12 - a Monogram 56 Chevy, which I built with stock rims, unpainted body and the rather ambitious twin-turbo set-up!

Never looked back, apart from a break between ages 18 and 25 - the usual sabbatical to attend to beer and women, and though I haven't managed to give up the beer (the women, between them, have decided to leave me alone it seems ;) ) I now make plenty of time for my model cars.

I like building US cars from the 50s and 60s, perhaps because I was so into them when I was at school so it's a kind of weird, misplaced nostalgia???? Whatever, I dig em! Though if it wasn't for Ebay, I'd never get hold of any - the UK is at the mercy of Revell (Germany) and Tamiya. I also have a couple of BMW kits in the stash, and I'm tempted now and again by such things as the Ferrari 250GTO, and like most European lads aged 31, the 1987 Ferrari F40 ;)

This is a great forum - the atmosphere is genial, and the standards here really keep me focused on raising my own skill levels.

I am building a 1:1 1957 Wolkswagen bug.

I'd love to see pics of that oval-window, Joe, and I must admit I'm a little jealous....I didn't get my first 1:1 Beetle until I was 23(still have it BTW ;) )

My turn: Dave Carnevale, certifiable car guy and styrene addict. I'll be 38 much later this year, been building pretty much since age 7, and I'm a lifelong resident of the 'forgotten' upstate New York. (Most NYC & NJ folk refer to Westchester county as 'upstate,' which makes us Albany-area residents Canadian by default  ) I'm a member of the TNMCC, although the distance makes it hard to attend more than 1 or 2 meetings a year. I've been married to my wonderful wife Jennifer for just over 4 years, she has built one model so far, and she is ready to move on to the next build....we are expecting our first child this coming November. Our two Pug dogs, Ralphie and Phoebe, should do well as older(albeit furry) siblings.

By my moniker, one can assume that I'm into Volkswagens - that is correct, but not the whole story. I also enjoy a lot of other cars, particularly Mopar muscle cars and traditional hot rods; it's no secret that in recent years I've become a big fan of weathered vehicles, and I have been working on stocking my buddy's G-gauge model railroad(1/22.5 scale) with a junkyard full of vehicles. Like most northeasterners I build model cars in the colder months, and tinker with my 1:1 toys all summer. Here's my '68 Meyers Manx and my '68 Beetle project:

the_boys-vi.jpg

Having the Saratoga Automobile Museum and Rolling Bones Hot Rod Shop within a half hour drive of home is great for a guy like me who is into a little of everything automotive.

I attended my first model car contest in '87, built models like there was no tomorrow, and went through a short period of trophy hound behavior in my late teens...luckily I survived with my dignity and hobby intact. Except for a stray local show here and there, I pretty much only attend the NNL East. I nowadays finish maybe 2 to 4 models a year, and I find a tremendous amount of joy in helping others; Matt Trotta and I have put on a couple of 'Make & Take' events at the Saratoga Auto Museum over the past few years, and it's great to see youngsters getting enthused about our hobby. I've found that the real awards in our hobby are the friendships we form and the enjoyment that building models brings us.

This thread was a cool idea for sure, and I concur the family atmosphere on this board is superior to the others.

Full time college student (Architectural Computer Aided Drafting major). planning on graduating (finally) in July 2009. work part time in a big box store. started building at the tender age of 7, first build was a 1:32 Bronco. built most of the 1:32 snap Hot wheels kits from that era. first 1:25 scale snap was a Revell Snap-tite 1993 Camaro, first glue kit was the Revell 1993 40th anniversary addition Corvette Convertible. which met an untimely death of the roof.

I build pretty much anything, little drag racing, no Donks (although I don't dislike them). I build mostly 60-70's mainstreamer versions of Muscle Cars. 80's odd cars, pretty much anything from the 90's, Tuners. NASCAR, Rat Rods, street rods. Super Cars. pickups. imports. some road racing cars. and the occasional big rig. if it catches my fancy I'll build it

New guy here. My name is John, am 40 years old , and have 4 kids. I live in Greensboro, NC. Recently joined a local model car club called Carolina Kustom Modelers.

Built models off and on since I was a kid. Started building seriously in 2000 after meeting racerX (member of this forum). He taught me everything I know about this hobby.

I build all types of subjects including all forms of motorsports, Street Rod, and Pro Street. Factory stock is the next category I'd like to get involved with.

Anyway, I'm glad to be a member of this community. Lots of knowledge and talent on display here.

Shout out to Gregg. I used to live in Mililani and then Wahiawa Heights about ten years ago. My family is still there.
