MoparWoman Jamie Posted October 9, 2014 Author Posted October 9, 2014 I been working on this project along with a AMT General Lee model that I'm building for my son. This project an that project has a lot in common. A lot of the pieces I'm building for this one I'm also stamping for his project as well. If you all are interested in seeing the project I'm doing for him.. I'll post a thread on his project. But his is more a stuntcar then this project is though. I'll be updating this thread asap.

MoparWoman Jamie Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 Jim I've been following your work and was wondering what happen. Glad to see your still working on this Charger I am also interested in seeing your sons build you have going on to. Hi Dan, Yea I'm still working on the project yet.. summer time got me and also health issues came up as well on me. So well in the summer it gave me time to think the projects out. This project is going to be a very fun one. I'm more mainly correcting the errors and adding detail where there isn't any. I'm kinda jumping back an forth on the project. and Since my son's project is on the bench as well and I need to scratch build a few things that both projects needs.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 Okay, been tickering with this project last few days.. I removed the kit firewall an glued in place to the chassis the 2nd firewall I been correcting. I need to make a few minor things yet, a few adjustments, and then bend the firewall back under at the bottom where it goes to the chassis at. In the photos, you will see I need to cut out the tranny area yet which will come soon. You will notice I also have removed the lower molded in area where the firewall bottom attaches to. I will make everything almost for the details on the new firewall. This here so how much front frame rail I need to add yet I'm also reworking the trans tunnel area at the firewall.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 Here shows the front end area Looking at the interior floor pan I hope you all enjoyed these photos. Comments are always welcome towards the project.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 Okay, I have a slight update here. Man I thought Revell was very good with detail.. I was wrong. So far I ran into a few flaws. Here you can see where I started to remove plastic to correct things Here the black lines mark how far back I have to sand down to. This side is starting to get there..
MoparWoman Jamie Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 Here you can see where I mark/draeed out some stuff, and the area where I will have to remove top part and tilt it inwards at the firewall The driver side, more correction to go Pass side almost done, driver side is untouched yet Here shows one side of the floor pan sanded back to the correct spot The other side which will be the driver side will be more fun as it's not like this side is
MoparWoman Jamie Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 The new piece for on the driver side of the firewall.. that will need adjustment Glued into place.. now the fun starts. LOL I hope you enjoyed this update. Comments are welcome towards the project.
Mr. Moparman Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Man, I've never seen anybody tear the Revell kit up so bad. I just have to ask, what exactly is wrong with it?
MoparWoman Jamie Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 Man, I've never seen anybody tear the Revell kit up so bad. I just have to ask, what exactly is wrong with it? What is wrong with it? The rear frame rails goes straight out in the rear instead up curving back up. The rear leaf shackle mounts doesn't look like the real ones. The bend at the rear axle that goes down under isn't correct. Now moving to the front end, the grill frame top plate has the bolts molded in the wrong spots, they are in fact on the head light door covers area where they should be in fact on the top area above the tip of the grill. On the real chargers of the 2nd gen, the firewall has a few bends in it. The revell one has one bend. The whole wall is straight up and down. On the real ones there is a lot of ribbon and bends. The wheel wells support area for the upper a-arms is straight where as on the real ones they tilt inwards at the rear and outwards at the front. The wheel hubs on the model needs to be moved upwards and shorten as the front wheels sticks to far unlike the rear. The rad support is straight across where as the real ones has a lot of indention's in front on the sides of the radiator. Besides that stuff and the kit having a doubled floor, it's a good kit. Besides, I have always wondered what a model of a charger would look like if a model company would have made a more correct looking one with all the details from a real 2nd gen one put into a scale version one. I have access to a 1/1 '69 Charger and a lot of photos from it as ref as well an measurements to.

I just left the kit as is, it looked nice on my shelf, so I never corrected everything.
robs4516 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I have access to a 1/1 '69 Charger and a lot of photos from it as ref as well an measurements to. I wish I still had my full scale AAR 'cuda sitting out in the driveway to use as reference! You're putting in a lot of work, I'm anxious to see what it looks like when you're finished.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 Oh, I've never paid much attention. I just left the kit as is, it looked nice on my shelf, so I never corrected everything. There is no problem with that. I have around 10 Revell Chargers around the house on shelf's too. They do look great.. I mean the kit is a great kit to assemble a nice looking charger model for on a shelf. But now if a person that knows there 2nd gen chargers looks closer they probably notice a lot of stuff incorrect. LOL

You're putting in a lot of work, I'm anxious to see what it looks like when you're finished. If you or others have photos of the cars you have or had an would like to share a photo or two in my thread please feel free. I would love to see them as I'm a muscle car person myself an love them. I am putting a lot of work into this project. I think when it's done, it will look great. Matter of fact here is an update of the firewall. I still have work to do on it before it's finish. I'm still in the shape stage. I still have to do the floor pan piece and curve it back under. This side which is the driver side has more bends then what the pass side did.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 Okay, I been working at trying to get this firewall done. I'm not sure what options came with the cars back then but I have quite a few ref photos of firewalls that I been using for detail ref. I still have some stuff to shape yet and to work on yet. The front clip off
MoparWoman Jamie Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 That's it for the update, hope to have more in a few days here. Comments are always welcome towards the project.
doggie427 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Love the attention to detail . Keep up the great work.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 Well with winter setting in now around here. I'm more on projects now. I been working at this one too. I'm working on the firewall and front chassis area now. From when these photos was taken, the front chassis frame has been modified and also scribe out of the floor pan piece and remove from the floor pan and firewall. I still have to clean the openings up and fill them with plastic and correct the front rails as well yet. The brass parts making is coming up soon. The Dash Now, since I'm working on my son project as well.. I just had to do a mock up like with the chassis in the amt/mpc shell.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 Not a bad fit at all.. Strange thing is, this is not even the shell for the project and yet it all comes together nicely! That's all for this update, I get the other photos uploaded in the next few days and post them. Feedback is welcome towards the project. I hope you all enjoyed this small update.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 Love the attention to detail . Keep up the great work. Thank you!
MoparWoman Jamie Posted December 22, 2014 Author Posted December 22, 2014 Been working on this project, almost ready to turn it into brass. I'm working on the driver side now of both the firewall and floor pan. On the real cars both sides are not the same either. Revell really over looked alot of details I would say. I also want to take and try an move the steering col hole over to the driver side a hair and make resize it down a hair as well. I also have to fix the front frame rails to. Make them look right. Anyways on with the photos.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted December 22, 2014 Author Posted December 22, 2014 Talk about trying to get things to set level an right and in the correct spot Comments are always welcome towards the build. I hope you enjoyed the update.
