Dr. Cranky Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I know, Jerry left us way too young, and we miss him. I am posting this one also over in the other part of the forum, but I am wondering if anyone knows where I might be able to reach Jerry Sims family, a brother, any relative who might have information about where I can find more of his work. Thank you. DC
Matt T. Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Jerry's love of this hobby was infectious, indeed. His builds (and photo backdrops) were always a treat. He is missed. His brother Jackie goes by the username "gator" on the Randy Ayers Nascar forum. You should be able to contact him from there.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 Matt, this is just totally invaluable. Thank you. I will.
Chuck Most Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 He posted here as LUKE'57, for those of you newer members. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showuser=2378
Dr. Cranky Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 Thanks, Chuck, he most certainly did. LUKE 57 and Mitchum. He truly embodied the three stages of the hobby: research, building, and having fun photographing and playing with his models.
Guest Johnny Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 "Picture Man" is what my wife referred to him as and when I told him that he said at one time that is what people had called him back when he was doing photography for racing! His work is really missed by all that knew him.
roadhawg Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 You can reach Jerry's brother Jackie at gator1@comporium.net
gator Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I don't post that often but I've been a member here since 2008. I have lots of pictures of Jerry's cars. He got me started building models about fifty years ago.
RJWood Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 What a coincidence, I was just thinking about him just the other day. And yes, he's missed. I would love to see a few pics of his. Truly a GREAT GUY.
Draggon Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Here's "Gators" page http://members.fotki.com/gator-gallery/about/

I added him to my friend's list. Best, DC
Tom Geiger Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Jerry also posted on the Spotlight board as Luke'57. We would email on occasion. He was a nice guy and taken way too soon.
Tony T Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Good to see ya here, Jackie! Jerry was a class act and was always willing to help a friend online with a tip, trick or encouragement. He encouraged me a lot with my garage diorama and to take it outside to take pictures...need to do that more this spring and summer. I built a tribute car to his memory, a 60 Galaxie convertible NASCAR racer, built in the style he built in, basically a curb side with hand painted numbers and lettering. Jackie sent me some decals to top it off. Definitely taken from his family too soon. Sorry to ramble on...
Dr. Cranky Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 Tony, what you call rambling is the truth. Jerry was one-of-a-kind, and generous to boot too.
