Lovefordgalaxie Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 (edited) I built this Galaxie from the AMT Styline kit. I'm the kind of guy that drives a 1974 Galaxie, loves cars the way they left the factory, and loves all cars as long as they are Ford V8s. I already KNEW that cars built up to the mid 70s were the only real cars in my book, and never could care less about the plastic pieces of you know what they are building today, but never thought how much I like to build simple kits. I never liked super detailing nothing, and even adding spark plug wires is a pain for me, so I really, really LOVED this AMT '61 Galaxie. The chassis is just one piece, you have too use paint to detail it. There are two metal axles for the wheels. There is no engine. The model was born from the same molds that gave birth to my beloved dealer promos of the 60s. The build started on Friday, and I finished her today. The paint is automotive urethane and two part clear. The color was mixed to represent the factory color of Laurel Green, even tough my digital camera can't do it justice, and I think I'll have to take some shots with my old Zenith camera and have the film developed to get the real color, just like in the good old days, when cars were really cars!!! 1961 Galaxie DONE!! by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1961 Galaxie DONE!! by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1961 Galaxie DONE!! by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1961 Galaxie DONE!! by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1961 Galaxie DONE!! by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1961 Galaxie DONE!! by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr Edited February 25, 2013 by Lovefordgalaxie
Sixties Sam Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Tulio, that is a beautiful model! It looks very real in the photos with that diorama. Nice color, and the chassis detail is amazing for a one piece molded part! I have that same Galaxie kit I built in the 1960's. I like the simple kits, too. Sam
DustyMojave Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Beautifully done Tulio. So you understand where I view this model from: My 61 F100 I've owned since 1976: Starlight Blue original color with a 428 Cobra Jet and C6 with Western Slot Mags. My 1-owner 61 Falcon Wagon (I have the registration card which expired in 1961 with my family name on it and I remember the Ford that we had before it!): Algiers Bronze in bad shape (but the rust is superficial), 170 in. 6/C4 with 1975 Toyota Celica wheels.
Grant Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 What he said! Very nice build ... Thanks for sharing and showing it!
Ramfins59 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Great looking model Tulio. Yeah those curbside kits are fun and quick builds but look fabulous when done right......like yours...!!! Good job.
Ron Hamilton Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Beautiful car, Tulio. My grandmoter had a '61 Galaxie 4 Door Sedan, which I drove the day I got my driver's license. I may have to do a model of it.
Sixgunner68 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Love that color, Tulio. I had a friend in high school that had a galaxie that same color. I think his may have been a 63, nice car but no power steering (those low speed turns were rough!). That color looks right from what I remember.
72 Charger Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Thats a very cool Galaxie I would love to get one
realgone58 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Stunning! I always look forward to seeing your builds. And, @ DustyMojave........that's a nice pair of old Fords.
Rod Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Woderful build! The interior looks awesome from what I can see. I love the big Fords from the early '60's. Until recently I was driving this thing around during the summer months.
