Greg Myers Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Wonder if we'll ever see this one again any time soon ?
wrecker388 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Last issue was in 2004 or 2005. I would like to see a reissue too so I could build the car from "All or Nothing" by Theory of a Deadman.
Hollywood Jim Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Who needs that one when we have this one...... . . ..
wrecker388 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Yep, that's the car. I started it with a built kit and DESTROYED the body beyond recognition.
Greg Myers Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 Who needs that one when we have this one...... . . .. Not the same scale Not the same kit Not the same stuff inside It's from the Revell "Fiddly" series (floppy doors, hoods, trunk and spindly suspension, and the same ol 409) come to think of it, I don't have one of those. But I still want a Monogram '53
wrecker388 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 This was the topic i started with. I have a few more screenshots in there if anybody else would want to try to build it.
Eshaver Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I would say so. Even though it's 1-24th scale made it look way larger than a comparable 1955 Bel Air , this kit went together well and looked nice on a display shelf .

Craig Irwin Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Both the Monogram and Revell 53 Chevys have proportion problems, and the Revell kit is far from stock. This subject is long over due for a new tool.
Greg Myers Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) Like to see this one too. Edited March 7, 2013 by Greg Myers
wrecker388 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Like to see this one too. Maybe in a two pack? that would be pretty nice.
Lunajammer Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Problem is, the Monogram '53 was on the books almost non-stop for ages it seemed. The market was so saturated you almost couldn't give them away. And at 1/24, wheel choices were limited. They're not hard to find even now.
Ramfins59 Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Yeah I'll be getting another one of these when I get around to working on all the '53 cars that I can find. Or I can redo the one I built about 20 years ago. The scale thing is really not an issue for me.
Dan Helferich Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I agree with Craig. We need a new tool '53 or '54. They are very popular in full scale. I have 2 friends with '53's. This one's very high on my "frothing at the mouth" for a new tool list.
High octane Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Who needs that one when we have this one...... . . .. IMHO, that is a poor excuse for a model kit and not worthy of my time or glue.
my80malibu Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 IMHO, that is a poor excuse for a model kit and not worthy of my time or glue. That issue has some excellent tires
mnwildpunk Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I'd like to see the 53 again. And the 53-54 sedan delivery granted not the best kits but I always had fun building them. The last one I had was the 54 sedan delivery and I had as much fun as when used to build them back in the day.
Fabrux Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 What is the difference between this kit and the later Revell version? I have one that is in the Lowrider box but the rest of the kit is really nice.
Casey Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 What is the difference between this kit and the later Revell version? I have one that is in the Lowrider box but the rest of the kit is really nice. The 1/24 Revell re-boxed Monogram kit? Not much, really, other than the addition of the lowrider parts, paints, and paintbrush. I would be perfectly happy if any and all of the 1/25 and 1/24 Revell and Monogram '53/4 Chevy kits never saw the light of day again, echoing Nick's feelings above. These aren't great kits being totally honest, and all of them, including reissues, are still easy to find, and not very expensive.
Guest Johnny Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I'm sure that there are a lot of people, myself included that think otherwise on those kits! While not perfect or the best kits ever made they are the ONLY kits made of that particular car and it is unlikely that a new mold would be made in the near future. Just like SOME here say it's bad for the hobby for people to say a kit is ok with it's flaws the same can be said of those that HOPE a kit does not get repopped because they personally don't like it!
Greg Myers Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 I was thinking the same thing. Sometimes it's the only game in town.
brewsterg6 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I'm building a monogram '53 factory stock. One of the details I changed to make it look more stock is to ditch the inner fenders and firewall, and replace them with the ones from the AMT 1951 kit. I've got aways to go: this has been on the back burner...
rmvw guy Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I think this is the same kit I once had only it was boxed as being from the movie "Grease". I remember it had decals that looked like rust and I thought, "Why would someone want to put those on a model?" This was back when rust wasn't cool.
Jantrix Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I think this kit has a lot of potential even if it is 1/24. First, I have scavenged the I-6 from it, for my 1/24 39 Chevy gasser. My plans for the rest of the kit, are to either add a sbc from a 1/24 '37 Ford kit and make a modern resto-mod or add the chassis from the 1/24 Tom Daniels Badman and the bbc from the '39 Chevy and make another gasser.
