freakshow12 Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 I was pretty dissapioned with this kit. Too much like a die cast. Same as the new 68 mustang line
Tompidom Posted April 23, 2013 Author Posted April 23, 2013 Got some paint on this one The engine is HEMI Orange And the body and some other parts are Plum Crazy Purple
Rob Hall Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I like the model bento box idea for parts organization whilst building.
Tompidom Posted April 24, 2013 Author Posted April 24, 2013 I love to work like this. No big mess and not worried about losing parts And i have done some more work on this one Since i wanted to make mine look like this one I had to mask off the body And paint it black I Think it came out pretty good!
tubbs Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 I was pretty dissapioned with this kit. Too much like a die cast. Same as the new 68 mustang line nice job so far. keep us posted. is this kit based of of the 1/24 T/A Challanger? things look different?
JasonC Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 I haven't seen many painted top cars from Mopar, seen a few Darts. But what are you going to use for chrome trim to separate the black painted top from the plum crazy body?
Modlbldr Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 (edited) I think for a seperation line I would just use BMF by itself so that it is nice and tight to the body so that it is as thin as possible. Almost as if it were painted on. I like the idea of a painted roof on this and really like the tail stripe. Later- Edited April 26, 2013 by Modlbldr
freakshow12 Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 I have seen a panther pink 70 super bee with a white top. They use the same trim as vinyl top cars. I would have put some styrene trim on before paint. Never seen a painted roof challenger though
tubbs Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 i know it was an option in 71 on cudas, not sure on challangers. more popular (but still rare) on the B-Bodies as Fred stated.
gtx6970 Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 (edited) Painted roof was an option in at least 1969 + 1970 , not sure of any other years I believe the factory code was VO2 they used the exact same seperation moulding as a vinyl top car would have used here is an example. And yes this one is all factory colors Edited April 26, 2013 by gtx6970
Tompidom Posted April 28, 2013 Author Posted April 28, 2013 I decided to just do it with a small strip off BMF, I thought of doing a styrene strip but i did not think it whas worht the effort Here is another update for you guys I did some BMf on the body and added the decals I forgot to take a pictue with all the decals on the body, But youll see those when the clear has hardend a bit more.
Rob McKee Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 The body looks stellar Tom. Nice work on the paint and the BMF came out really nice. Using the case to separate parts out like that is brilliant! I now have a mission today to find a couple of cases like that.
Tompidom Posted April 28, 2013 Author Posted April 28, 2013 (edited) Thanks man! Here is the body in clear, Eventhough it might look good in the pic's in real life it has a lot of small particles in the paint, So in a couple of day's i will start polishing those out. JFortner5 Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Really cool I love the color. Question, can you clear over BMF. I've never used the stuff but I want to get my hands on some.
Tompidom Posted April 29, 2013 Author Posted April 29, 2013 Yes you can, as you can see in the pictures i have done just that.
Tompidom Posted April 30, 2013 Author Posted April 30, 2013 I started detailing the interoir and polished out the roof You can still see some scratches on the roof, But in real life it is not bad at all. Really pleased witht the way it came out!
Tompidom Posted April 30, 2013 Author Posted April 30, 2013 Well Time for the final update! Gave the panel lines a black wash Assembled the engine and wired it Detailed the chassis Put the engine in and added the fire wall finished off the interior The final shots before its all assembled
charlie8575 Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Very nice work. I don't think I've ever seen a two-tone E-body before. I like the idea of the boxes to hold the sub-assemblies in. Looks like it's much safer for the parts than letting them rattle around in the kit box. I might look into a system like that for myself. Charlie Larkin
freakshow12 Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Looking great. I really like the rear stripe. Don't see that one often
IMPALA SS 427 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Wow, its so shiny and those colours are awesome. I like your part storage system, I may need to get something like this...
JasonC Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Nice detail. But if you're going for an all stock look. The valve covers should be engine color and the Mopar "Do not wash or oil" decal should be on the side of the aircleaner.

Yes i know the covers need to be orange, But i forgot them when i was painting the engine, and i could nog get close to the color woth a brush, so i decided to just do em black, I don't really mind. But thanks for the information!!
