James2 Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 (edited) This will be an exercise in styrene imagineering. While waiting for some pieces to finish the Surf Rod I mocked this up and decided it would be pretty cool. The first thing I did was to flip the gas tank, I add a filler still. Instead of flipping the bags and shock mounts. I cut the center section free and flipped it, leaving the mounts intact and a stronger mount. The front axle is from a 33 Willy's kit, flipped of course. The body is a Revell 5-window chopped 3 1/2" (scale). I also cut up the Wild Bill's decal to fit much better. The engine is only for mock up. Thanks for the interest... Edited April 7, 2013 by James2
greasymodels Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 (edited) [*]what kit are those wheels and tires from? I love them and keep seeing them every were but on my bench lol!!! Think i want a set for my 32 project..... Edited April 7, 2013 by greasymodels
James2 Posted April 7, 2013 Author Posted April 7, 2013 Thanks for the comments guys. Joshua, those are in the new Revell R@t Roadster kit. Very nicely done and many other cool parts as well.
Bill Edman Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 can you post close up shots of the cut points please it gives me an idea for an upcoming build
James2 Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 Bill, are you referring to the body? Thanks Richard, I'm putting a parts box blown Pontiac engine together right now.
James2 Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 A few pix of the Pontiac engine, louvered trunk and a possible grill... And the roof cuts....
James2 Posted April 11, 2013 Author Posted April 11, 2013 can you post close up shots of the cut points please it gives me an idea for an upcoming build Here is where I made the cuts. The tank glued right back in place with little sanding and I change the engine mount angle to gain clearance. I also left the floor pan in place but now it is more of a belly pan. Thanks for looking and commenting! And this is the what I'm working on. Trying to put the Catalina interior in the 32 is alot like trying to put 10 lbs. of sugar in a 5 lbs. bag.
zaina Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 That's a great use of the Pontiac interior. I might have to try that sometime.
slusher Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Love the interior James, a very cool looking build already. l know you can pull it off..
Bill Edman Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 thanks for the pics james they will help immensly
James2 Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 Your welcome Bill, hope it works out for you.
george 53 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 WoW! Whooda thunk? That is some REAL out the box thinkin, very impressive! So far so good, it is lookin feasable, if a little different!
Shardik Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 James, you are a lunatic (read: creative genius). I'm not sure I'd want to drive it but it's looking very cool. Your use of the modern Pontiac interior gives me an idea to solve a dilemma with a '39 Chevy I'm building. Looking forward to more!
gautreau Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I really like the direction of this build. I would have never thought of flipping the frame over to get that kind of stance. Great job and keep the progress coming.
bpletcher55 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 THAT IS A COOL WAY OF LOWERING A CAR ,I LIKE IT , THIS OPENS SO MEANY DOORS ,NICE WORK,
geordie Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 That's going to be a very stiff front suspension set up.
James2 Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 That's going to be a very stiff front suspension set up. That's because it's plastic! Thanks for the interest and comments....
James2 Posted April 14, 2013 Author Posted April 14, 2013 Getting ever closer to some paint. Made some tail lights from aluminium tube and red plastic. Not finished with the mounting but I kinda like the Tweety Pie grill. A little more fitting and sanding and it'll be ready for primer.
Greg Myers Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 That's going to be a very stiff front suspension set up. Why ? It works both ways, it's a spring.
