JollySipper Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 This will be my first in-progress to show you guys. Nothing too fancy, just an out-of-box build, although I do have some P-51 decals that I am going to try to use. Updates as I progress, and any comments or suggestions are welcome!
JollySipper Posted April 13, 2013 Author Posted April 13, 2013 Here's a little progress. Got the basis of the engine together, and the grill and bumpers I've chosen to use. Also here you can see how I'm going to try to carry the aircraft theme into the interior.....
Olskoolrodder Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I'm a HUGE Merc fan,and have built a few of these kits (a big fan of these kits too, obviously,LOL),looking forward to more,my friend,a big +2 on the off to a good start!
JollySipper Posted April 13, 2013 Author Posted April 13, 2013 Thank you guys for showing an interest! Painting on the engine now, should have pics soon....
JollySipper Posted April 14, 2013 Author Posted April 14, 2013 I was a busy boy today and got the engine done! I'm kind of enjoying showing in-progress pics, as it's making me cut less corners than I usually do on a build. I will have more progress in a day or so......
Olskoolrodder Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Engine looks good,Brother! Looking forward to it ( "I will have more progress in a day or so...... :)" ),you're doing fine on it
Custom Hearse Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Nice start!. I can't wait to see it with the decals added!
crazyrichard Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 nice !! and i think the aircraft theme would look great with those decals any pics of those ??
JollySipper Posted April 14, 2013 Author Posted April 14, 2013 Got a small update, guys! Managed to get a few decals on... a star on each door, a small horse on the trunk, and what you can see here. I'll be doing some work on the chassis today!
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Your workmanship looks very clean. Love the lightening-holes on the interior panels. What did you use to get that spectacular gloss on the wheels?
JollySipper Posted April 14, 2013 Author Posted April 14, 2013 Thanks for the compliment, Ace... the paint on the wheels is just Rust-oleum Regal Red over some gray primer, the same paint I am painting the frame with.....
rasafyff Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 It needs some nose art, maybe a pin-up girl on the front fender. What might look cool too is a bright red hood. What I think would look cool is a checker board hood. Another suggestion.Black and white stripes on the roof.
JollySipper Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Thanks for the comments fellas! Means a lot! Raymond, there is a small pin-up girl on the nose, and I think the driver (or pilot!) would be distracted by a red hood....
JollySipper Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Got a small update for you guys... Except for adding the rear shocks, the chassis is done! I even attached the steering sector and master cylinder. Now all I need to do is paint the belly pan, some other little odds and ends, then I can start putting this thing together!
JollySipper Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 Here's a better shot of the frame, which is now attached to the pan.... still gotta get those rear shocks on!
JollySipper Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 Well, I finished the interior and got it in place. All that's left is to put the body on and touch-up a few loose ends, then it's on to under glass! Now let's hope this thing doesn't fall apart in my lap during final assembly......
JollySipper Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 Well, here it is all done! Nothing too fancy or super detailed, but that's typical for me.... I really like how this one turned out, though...
CrazyGirl Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 WOW cool build , and the P51 is my second fav airplane of all time , wont tell you what my fav is
