Wonderbread Kustomz Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Got this kit for 18 bucks at Hobby Lobby yesterday... Decided to start building it... Going for a rust/resto look.... Maybe. Made some cancer spots and removed some trim..
jsc Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Great subject matter for some rust! And of course, some holes!
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 Got a little more done on this...
Modlbldr Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 (edited) Great looking color on that. I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. How do you keep the salt on while you spray the paint. I know others have done this method, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm having fun right now with this same kit. Nice to see you didn't chop it. How have you lowered the suspension, or have you yet? I am starting the rear by removing the leaf springs and making trailing arms with air bags. Later- Edited April 16, 2013 by Modlbldr

I sprayed some water on the body and sprinkled the salt on and let it air dry, then painted the body and after the paint was dry, I scrubbed the body with dish detergent and warm water...
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 And one more pic for the night...

Wonderbread Kustomz Posted April 19, 2013 Author Posted April 19, 2013 Got a little bit done today. Did some work on the motor and got started on cutting the rear floor pan and wheel tubs so I can lay it out...
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 Spent more time today on this... More weathering to the body... Interior getting gunked up as well... Made a steering wheel knob... And working on the dash...
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted April 23, 2013 Author Posted April 23, 2013 Thanks... The wheels are from the 48 Chevy Aerosedan kit by galaxy
Tom Geiger Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 James - I was rockin' with you right up until the interior photo. You are doing a great job on this car, so I have to say that the interior just doesn't look right. Interiors don't rust and get dirty, without any fabric tears etc. For reference, go to eBay Motors and look at some of the beat up cars for sale. And go look at Hollywood Jim's 1950 Olds interior. I don't mean to criticize, but you were doing such a good job on this car, you need to work on the interior. I'm pretty good at this, so I'm happy to offer suggestions. If you need more interior parts to play with, I have a few parts kits of that car. I'd be pleased to mail you whatever you need, no cost at all!
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted April 23, 2013 Author Posted April 23, 2013 Thank you Tom... Trust me, I don't get offended easily... I'll gladly take any suggestions anyone has to offer... Let me see about redoing the interior and getting it to look right... I really only wanted to make it dirty, not rusty, but I can see how it does look rusty...
