Off Topic works. No matter what, you're going to have those that don't read or look and just post where ever suits them. The joy of "supervising" a forum.

P.S. This ones for you Harry. :D:PB)

Exactly!

"Pinned" topics don't work. Most people ignore them.

I'm kind of liking Brett's idea... keep "General" limited to model-related topics, and maybe have the actual off-topic (my dog died, my wife left me, etc.) stuff down at the bottom of the page... maybe simply call it "Off Topic."

I like that idea,

Oh man your asking for it by putting at the bottom. Guys would have to pass all the modeling subjects to talk about there sick cat that stubbed his toe

The more I think about it the more I like the idea

And you know what? All the people who now complain that they don't post in the right place because the right place is too far down the page... they would have no problem finding the "off topic" section at the very bottom of the page! I guarantee it!

"Off-topic" "The Lounge" "Anything Goes (except politics and religion)*" leave it at the top of the page or put it at the bottom, no matter either way.

I'm sure there are probably just as many posters, if not more, who don't like all the modeling-related topics clogging up their sick-cat-stubbed-toe threads...

Sorry if I kinda went off on this one, but it kinda touched a nerve with me and the last couple of threads that dealt with similar issues got locked before I had a chance to comment on it.

*I've said it before and I'll say it again, I give you guys mad props for keeping politics and religion off this board. It's honestly the #1 reason I come here, because I know there won't be any of that here.

Just my two cents here, but these forums are great, no matter how they're divided. I have no complaints whatsoever about any of it. I feel lucky just to have a place like this.

If every member thought the way you do, my job would be waaaaaaay easier! :D

Thanks for the thumbs-up.

How soon we forget.....Rants and raves...That was off topic.....OH BOY........

Then Harry said spotlight did it that way.......(bigger) OH BOY.......

Yeah....One big off topic rants and raves....always up top :unsure::o

We could just keep it the way they are, and remove wrong topics....NO CHAT!

Yeah, Rants and Raves didn't go so well. But maybe because it was called Rants and Raves? So we were basically asking for people to go off.

Maybe "Off Topic" would work better? I don't know... but I do like Brett's idea of a model-related "General" section and a separate, truly off-topic "Off Topic" section at the bottom of the page. That seems like a logical idea to me.

Yeah, let's add another section for people to post the wrong topics in. Then, Harry can complain about people posting off topic subjects in the General section or people posting General subjects in the off topic section. It's the perfect solution!

Yeah, I've already thought of that. But the point that all kinds of goofy stuff is mixed in with actual model related stuff in the "General" section is a valid point. Maybe if we had a separate off-topic section it would be better. But you're right... there will be people posting in the wrong place anyway. That's one thing I don't see ever going away, no matter what we do or how things are arranged. There will always be those people who will find a way to post in the wrong place. And they'll blame the forum, they'll blame me, they'll blame anything and everything.

Let's blame Canada.

The forum is fine, perfectly organized and clear for anyone who will pay attention and read an occasional rule or guideline. I enjoy it very much, thank you, and having moderated several forums in the past I know how difficult it can be... So, kudos.

Exactly. With great power comes great responsibility. Just a suggestion. Maybe someone could step up and offer to help moderate the forum? Isn't it only Harry and Casey ATM?

As soon as you set up an "Off Topic" section for those posts that have nothing to do with modeling . . .

Some Gomer is gonna post his model car in it.

Oh yeah, Rants and Raves... Those were the good ol' days. Weren't half of them rants about having to learn to speak/read Hawaiian? :D

That reminds me, it's been a while since we had one of Gregg's Hawaiian lessons.

While "Off Topic" seems like a good idea at first glance, I wonder if it might loosen up some members to think they could post political opinions (thus requiring even more admin vigilance)? Maybe it's worth finding out, in order to purge General of so many off-topic posts.

I am not saying an off topic section is a bad idea, but is that not what the general section is for now?, or is the general section supposed to be a general section for model discussion ?

And, I dont get why so many of you have this what seems to be hate about people wanting to talk about things not related to models, even at our monthly club meetings, we dont spend the entire time talking about models.

No matter what you do Harry, people are still going to post threads in the wrong section, thats just the nature of beast if you will
