Awesome looking custom Merc you got going! That is the most beautiful 1/25 scale flathead I think I've ever seen! Keep it up and thanks for sharing.

I really like what you are doing to that merc. However, what interests me the most is how you do the louvers. What can you tell us about that?

sorry if I missed something along these lines earlier. If so please refer me and I'l gladly look up. Thanks

Obviously, Jeff is just kidding. I have no secrets. In fact, this "secret" was published in the April 2005 issue of Scale Auto.

Here's what you want to buy.

Determine how long you want the louver to be and cut the "stairs" to that length. Use that piece to draw the outline on the hood.

Cut out the piece INSIDE the lines so that you can slowly file away material until the "stair" piece fits tightly.

Glue in the piece and use putty to smooth in the edges.

That's the whole story.

Lyle, thanks for the detailed reply. It's one of those things that makes you say "Why didn't I think of that?"

Will have to try it soon. Nice looking '32.

Great work on the Merc! I hope it doesn't get overlooked in the flood of Revells. The shifter and engine details are fabulous! Also, much thanks to Mr. Willits for a brilliant technique. I'll definitely try that one soon.

So, to parrot everyone else, I love the flat head. And I love the body work......the louver trick gives me some great ideas......

But I would like to ask a stupid question. Did you make the engine stand? Or is it part of a kit?

Thanks.
