mr moto Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 This is my current project (one of 'em) - the one that's most likely to get finished anytime soon. It's supposed to be a '59 Cad that's used for ranch work. It's been a real fun project so far. I had to open the trunk to make cargo space and generally abuse every part of it with washes and Tamiya Weathering Master. The body comes next. And the finishing touch!
Jairus Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 That's some pretty nice weathering ya'll got there Cowboy!
James W Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Good looking stuff so far. With those fins, you don't really need stake sides. btw, I don't remember a '59 coupe. Who's kit is that?
mr moto Posted October 16, 2007 Author Posted October 16, 2007 Thanks for the compliments, guys! That's a Revell kit. It's the companion kit to their '59 convertible, in fact it includes almost all the convertible parts, too. You could probably cut off the roof and build a convertible if you wanted to do it the hard way!
James W Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Thanks Manuel, I could not remember the coupe. Now I'll have to look for one.
RJWood Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Great work so far, I like where your going with this. I'm tired of the pimp mobile look. Its nice to see someone use a little imagination on a kit. and make it stand out with lots of extra details. Can't wait to see the finished model complete with the finishing touch. nice going. Ron
Dr. Cranky Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Love the weathering . . . and that hay almost made me fall off my chair. Great work . . . I can't wait to see more!
mr moto Posted November 23, 2007 Author Posted November 23, 2007 I've been at it again. The body is painted and weathered now and the interior is in its final form with coffee cups and a case of oil added. Next comes the dreaded final assembly and this one looks like a bear. It won't be any picnic getting that 390 Caddy mill with all the power accessories stuffed into the engine compartment. I'm glad I took some pictures of it at this point just in case the whole project ends up as plastic shards on the floor!
dub Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Looks great! I love the weathering. I am in the process of doing a build that will be weathered a bit. It will be a learning experience. I taught myself how to do shiny ones first, now for the dirty ones!
paul@detaildownunder Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 This thing is coming along great, the weathering and extra's you are adding look awesome!!!!! Just go slow and steady on final assembly because I wanna see this thing in one piece not 100!!!!!!!
MrObsessive Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 I Love It! The weathering and other small details are top notch! That car makes such a perfect subject..............maybe because there's so much of it to work with! Your tinted windows look great! Which paint did you use for that?
mr moto Posted November 23, 2007 Author Posted November 23, 2007 (edited) Thanks for all the good comments, guys! The window tint is Testors candy spray can enamel decanted and airbrushed. The dark bands at the top are candy blue just as it comes out of the can. The rest of the window is a mix of 1 part blue, 3 parts green and 3 parts thinner. It still came out a little too dark so I'll probably add more thinner next time. The windows were coated with Future before tinting. You don't have to do that - I usually don't - but I figured that if I messed it up I just could strip them with Windex. Sure enough, I didn't like the first attempt at the blue bands and Windex took everything off just perfect! I got the dirty window look by just spraying a dust coat of matte finish Krylon fixative from the art supply section of Hobby Lobby. Edited November 23, 2007 by mr moto
parki Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Looking real good so far Manuel Is it going to be part of a diorama?
dub Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 I got the dirty window look by just spraying a dust coat of matte finish Krylon fixative from the art supply section of Hobby Lobby. OOOO! That's an excellent tip! I have seen that adhesive and wondered if there was a practical use for it. Thanks!
Wildrice Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Truly awesome work. I can see it sitting on a farm in Texas.
mr moto Posted November 24, 2007 Author Posted November 24, 2007 Looking real good so far Manuel Is it going to be part of a diorama? No plans for a dio right now but it would be a natural evolution to do that in the future.
mr moto Posted December 3, 2007 Author Posted December 3, 2007 Finished it!! More photos are posted in "Under Glass".
