VictorSmalls Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 (edited) Dave here from Pittsburgh, PA. Seems like every winter I end up getting into another hobby when the weather gets bad and I can't play with full size cars as much. Last year was trains and I think this winter will be getting back to model building. I grew up building them when I was a kid with the help of my Dad. I would say it has been at least 10 years since I have worked on one so I thought I would join up and do some reading. I was looking to get some information as to where to pick up models online if anyone could help. I am not really interested in getting the same thing I see at Walmart year in and year out. In my summer time I spend time playing with 1:1 cars as much as the budget allows. Attached are a few pics of what I have and have put my time into. Old New Edited October 16, 2007 by VictorSmalls
dub Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Welcome, fellow young 'un! Its nice to see more younger folk like you and I on here to mix up the ages better. If you've come here to learn, then you're in the right place! This forum is THE best on the web for skill level. The talent collected here is increible. I have a similar story, just picked up my tools again with a seriousness like never before. With the knowledge I've gathered from here, I am amazed with what I am capable of! I hope your experience is the same. Oh yeah, nice taste in your 1:1 car modifications. Very refreshing!

Thanks Dub, I have just started gathering supplies and would like to give it a more professional go this time around. I get back home from work at the end of the week and will be spending some time setting up some quality basement area and starting on a DIY paint booth. If you haven't seen the advertising yet, check out BigLots this week, they are selling all models off at $5. I picked up a 61 Ranchero and a 05 300C today. I'm also happy to see a fast passed board, when compared to others I have seen on this subject.
Casey429 Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Welcome aboard! Where exactly in Da Burgh are you? I'm in elizabeth, about 20 mi. southwest of Dahntahn. (Sorry, I couldn't resist breaking out the Pittsburghese)
VictorSmalls Posted October 17, 2007 Author Posted October 17, 2007 Welcome aboard! Where exactly in Da Burgh are you? I'm in elizabeth, about 20 mi. southwest of Dahntahn. (Sorry, I couldn't resist breaking out the Pittsburghese) You might be shocked, but I grew in in Elizabeth in my young years and then moved out to Forward Twp. I went to EF all my years. My parents still live on River Hill, and I still make it down as much as I can. I currently live up Rt 28 near Sarver, PA (about 20 minutes from town). Its great to see a local on here!
MrObsessive Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Hello from another Pennsylvanian! I live in Steelton, which is right next to Harrisburg...............some I'm a ways from you! Anyway, it's good to see you jump back into the hobby-----the board's full of interesting tips and such. Nice cars you have there! VictorSmalls Posted October 17, 2007 Author Posted October 17, 2007 Thanks for the welcome guys. I am working on my bench space at the moment and picked up 4 kits over the past couple days along with a few supplies. I can't wait to get started.
Casey429 Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 (edited) I know exactly where Sarver is. I went to Lernerville Speedway twice this summer to see the World of Outlaws sprints. I'm a Junior at EF this year. Boy that school needs some help, its literaaly falling apart. They're planning a new school building, but not until sometime in the next 5-7 years or so. I'm also friends with a girl that lives up on River Hill. Small world huh? Edited October 17, 2007 by Casey429

They are my cousins. That school was going down hill when I graduated in 99.

ScaleModelFan Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Hi ya Dave ... and welcome to the forum. I can't join in and say I have a clue as to where any of these neighborhoods are located ... but, I did want to say that I think it is great that you are coming back to the hobby after a few years away! The most important thing to remember is ... have fun with it!
