Daddyfink Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Very cool! I wonder if I could use my drill press as a vertical lathe?
BubbaJoe Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 i am just so blown away by this...truly amazing work
Davewilly Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Very cool Anne I knew there was a reason i saved all those plugs every time I used my hole saw! Very killer idea to make wood steering wheel!
pandamonium2112 Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Nice work Anne. That wheel turned out amazing. Can't you just use a small round file to put the finger grips in the old one then re-varnish? Anyway keep up the good work.
my80malibu Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 looks good Anne maybe next time you could turn it down by half make an opposing side then sandwich the spokes in between
The Modeling Hermit Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 That looks sooooo much easier than the way that I've been doing it. I did mine on the lathe using loose ring tools, which resulted in more frustration than steering wheels. I'll use your meathod from now on. Thanks for sharing.
CrazyGirl Posted May 26, 2013 Author Posted May 26, 2013 thanks guys ,,,,,,,, it takes about 15 minutes to make the wheel this way , now that I know what to do it may take around 8 minutes to make
Foxer Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 You keep making me feel better and better about my modeling, Anne. I never finish anything because I keep coming up with another detail I should do ... now I see I'm nowhere NEAR your detail fanaticism and will never worry about it again! It's good to see you jumping in feet first and doing is so well!
Guest G Holding Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Agree with the rest, Now you need a PE center for it...PE polished with rivets! (harry's beef with the grips took you 15 minutes...I figure 5 more for the rivets!)
CrazyGirl Posted May 27, 2013 Author Posted May 27, 2013 Thanks for the nice words ,,,,,,, Greg , it does have the photo etch center , I have thought of rivets but the vette wheel does not have them , but it would be cool to add , I am trying to find some teak to make the next wheel , and Ron Hamilton pointed out a few things that I need to fix on the interior , attack that tomorrow , I should have the car done in about 2 years at this rate !
Danno Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 You didn't show us how the spokes attach to the rim. That's usually fiddly. How did you accomplish it?
