IMPALA SS 427 Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 I built this to replicate a car my dad used to own and gave it to him for his birthday, the tail lights didn't arrive in the mail so i had to make a last minute purchase and collect the Ed Roth Outlaw. In case anyone's wondering the thing on the areal is a fox tail (My dad had one on his 1:1) I will let the pics do the talking.... All comments welcome.
Dominik Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 This is really, really cool! I think, your father was happy to get his owened car. Like your Biscayne...4 Doors, pretty colors, straight six engine and (my favorite) right handed dash. Well done James. You can be proud or this result!
PappyD340 Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Very NICE indeed James, I'm sure your dad loved it, probably brought back fond memories for him, well done!
Gluebomber Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Nice build! Your model brought back memories. My dad owned one too, but his was in Glen Green. Also, I bought a '58 Impala in 1979. That one was a little past its prime, but I had fun in it for about a year or so.
Guest Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Beautiful! My once issue is your plug wires are far too thick, they are more heater hose sized.
realgone58 Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Cool! Did you use an old promo, or is this a resin?
slusher Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Excellent build James, great detail as well. A very thoughtful gift.
IMPALA SS 427 Posted July 14, 2013 Author Posted July 14, 2013 Thanks guys. midnightprowler - This was my first real time at doing engine wiring so i wasn't sure what to use, i had some wire that looked about right so i used it. what size wiring would you normally use on 1/25 engines? I am always looking for ways to improve my modeling skills so i appreciate it. realgone 58 - this is neither resin or promo, i converted it from the amt 58 impala. The build is here:http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=67703&page=1 I plan on doing another later down the track... maybe a 4 door bel air sports sedan or a 4 door wagon...
Guest Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Real plug wires are about 1/4" thick, give or take, so wire about .015-.019 would be close.
bbowser Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Very cool! Something other than the standard Impala, there were a lot more of these on the roads than fancy Impalas. Great work.
Bob Ellis Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 That is not an easy job converting an Impala to a BelAir or Biscayne. The rear window and rear end are very hard to change.
Space Cowboy Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Well my friend you built the most stunning and super detailed car. The paint is flawless and has a deep shine.....
IMPALA SS 427 Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 Thank you very much for the kind words.
geetee66 Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Yeah James, hats off to you for that conversion...I wouldn't know where to start! I've gotta have a look at your build thread and see how you did it. This is a cool car I dig the foxtail and your paint is top notch. May I also add a small hint? Have a go at thinning black paint and letting it flow into the grille details. Clean off the high points with a soft cloth or Q-tip. It gives it much greater depth and removes shine where there should be shadow or holes.
hjracing Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Exelent job, great conversiion to a 4dr and right hand to!
