Ramfins59 Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 (edited) Since Mother Nature finally broke down and gave us a BEAUTIFULLY DRY DAY here in western PA, I was able to paint a couple of model bodies. The '58 Olds is in it's own WIP thread, In addition to that, I was able to paint a couple of Promo's that I had picked up at NNL East back in April. I'll be jumping backwards a couple of years from my Class of '58 build mission, and starting on the Class of '56. I painted a '56 Plymouth promo body in a 2 Tone color combo of Tamiya Gray Green (#AS-29) and Tamiya British Green (#TS-9). I got replacement chrome bumpers and grille from The Modelhaus, along with the interior and glass. I gave the grille a blackwash with The Detailer and gave the chrome headlights a light coat of white acrylic and then glued clear lenses from my parts stash over them. They look a lot better. I also painted a '56 DeSoto promo body in a 2 Tone color combo of Tamiya Tan (#AS-15) and Tamiya Red Brown (#TS-1). I also got replacement bumpers and grille from The Modelhaus for this along with the interior. The promo glass was in great shape. I also gave the promo chrome headlights a light coat of white acrylic and again glued clear lenses over them. I will eventually be starting separate WIP threads for the Plymouth and DeSoto, but I want to finish up the '58 Olds first. Thanks to all for looking in on this. Edited July 25, 2013 by Ramfins59
Skip Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Love those colors Rich, like most '56 model cars are. Saw a hot rod black '56 running around today. Cool cars, but make my class of '56 either Chev or Ford in that order. I'm a '56 model as well, not quite a barn find but unrestored and not quite stock running gear. I have a couple of light weight titanium parts so can't compete in box stock anymore! You need to print up a little bumper sticker for it "Yes It's Got a HEMI!" those had the "little" Red Ram Hemi didn't they, like I said I'm not all that Mopar knowledgeable. Hemi's are cool in any shape of size.
Dr. Cranky Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I agree, nice colors on both. When they get finished, it'd be nice to see the paint photographed together.
BKcustoms Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 (edited) Great colors on both! Last weekend I rode in a demo derby and we we're beat by a 56 Desoto with a paintjob similar to yours. it was kind of sad to see a cool old Desoto get smashed up though... Edited July 26, 2013 by BKcustoms
Ramfins59 Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 Thanks very much everyone. Skip, I will be getting around to the '56 Chevy and Ford kits eventually, as I have them both in my To Do pile. I also have the '56 Nomad, and both a '56 Olds and '56 Pontiac promo to do. Then of course there will be all the other '56 car kits that the Modelhaus has. Both of these promo's will be Curbsides as I'm not cutting open the hoods to put in engines. Virgil, thanks for the kind words. I'll be sure to post a group shot of these '56 cars once I get a couple of them finished up. I'll be starting separate WIP threads for each of these cars in the very near future. Thanks for looking in.
Ramfins59 Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 You're right Billy, it would be VERY upsetting to see ANY cool old car get smashed up like that.
Ramfins59 Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 Thank you Al and Pat, I appreciate your encouraging words. I've got a few small touch-ups to do on these and then I can clearcoat them and do the BMF work.
