How does that work? I've seen cable controlled automatics installed backwards, but manual linkages? I would think it simply would never work and not even be drivable at all.

well...it was drivable, as long as you remembered to shift in reverse 4-spd pattern. :)

I don't know why everyone is so worked up about the yellow hot rod.

The dude built it with his own money, used his own time...why should I care what he built?

I have friends that have nice 1:1 classic muscle cars, but won't take them to car shows.

At any car show or meet that is open to the public, you will find:

1. Nitpickers

2. Dreamer/criticizer type ("If I owned that car, I'd put a new rag top on it, repaint it in apple green, install a custom interior, put a 'vette engine in it, hang NOS quarters on it, and definitely get Foose rims after I lowered it 3 inches. No way would I be seen in those Rally II rims with radials!")

3. The Mine-Is-Way-Better-Than-Yours type. ("I spent my entire inheritance and maxed $58,000 in credit cards to have this frame-off car, so I am so much better/smarter/more gifted/wiser/talented/arrogant than you are with that piece of junk.")

4. The Sell-Me-Your-Car type. These jokers typically are trying to buy a $20,000 car for $2,500. These range from "will you take $500 down and $50 a week?" to the "I'm gonna insult you by offering you $3,000, just so you know what I think of your car."

5. The I-Had-One-Of-Those-Back-Then type ("but mine had the Hemi/409/Hi-Po with the SS/RS/GT/GTX/GTO package and 4 speed with _________ (insert high end option) special ordered from the factory")

6. The I-Bought-A-$10-Pontiac-T-Shirt-And-Now-I'm-An-Expert-On-All-Old-GM-Cars guy. (There are more of these folks that you might imagine.)

I'm sure there is more to the list, but I'm guessing this list covers about 90% of them.

Nonetheless, spend 2 hours listening to these people, you'll wanna either vomit, or shake your head in disgust and bewilderment. Possibly both. One car meet is enough to last a life time.

Ok, so lets just be polite. Like when someone shows us their ugly baby and all we can say is "How Cute!"

So, How Cute!

Yep, but this guy's '27 T "baby" is still ugly at worst, and badly proportioned to the point of being silly at best, no matter how much the owner loves it or how many others think it's wonderful that he does. It's cars like this, and even more "creative" eye-sores like "Thunderflite," that ensure that the number of vehicles worth looking at at the average car show will be about 20%.

Only one owner/builder of the '57 Chevies below gets credit for saving his car from a fate worse than the scrap crusher, no matter how much he may love it...

Don't get me going on this. Rows and rows of spanking new Camaros, Mustangs and Corvettes, If I want to look at this stuff I'll go to the dealers. Oh, did I mention PT cruzers, HHR's, Prowlers, and how many other factory hot rods ? :o

Well, it's probably easier to get time payments over 5 or more years for a $40+K new car than to get any kind of time payment arrangements for a classic car. I don't think too many lending institutions would give a loan for a classic car and personal loans for something like that wouldn't be easy to get. New car purchase? Sure!- we'll just repo if you miss enough payments.

The purple monstrosity is somewhat local to me. You should see what they did to a 67 chevelle ...

At least that purple glob of vomit is a 4-door. Oh, wait, I meant to say "how cute"!

Ever heard this old saying?

"You know what a Camel is? It's a Horse that was designed by a Committee."

Kinda looks like the committee got hold of this car....
