Scalper Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) Hello this is a Dealership that one of our club members built over 30 years ago. The builder is Ron Dixon. We decided to take it out of storage and accessed what needs to be done to it. Here is some picture of how she stands today Edited August 4, 2013 by Scalper
Ramfins59 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Andre, that is so cool looking. Obviously that would make a GREAT Club display. It would be cool if you could have a Used Car Lot to go along with it, for cars other than Mopars.
Howard Cohen Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Andre - the original builder of the dealership has not passed away, just retired from the club. His name is Ron Dixon and he was, and still is, one of the premier model car builders, although he doesn't build as much any more. Richard - there was a used car lot beside the dealer at one point and it is temporarily retired. Over the years there has also been an exotic car dealer; a park scene with a concours; a speed shop; a custom car show; a restoration shop; a funeral home; a split level house; a Nascar curve and (our most popular display) a working 4x8 slot car track The dealership was last restored and used in 2003 to celebrate the 100 years of Ford and it was re-done as 'Hank's Ford' with 'DJs Used Cars' beside it, the 'DJ referring to Dale Jarrett. The address for the Ford dealer was '999 Dearborn Drive'. Stay tuned, it may return...
Tom Geiger Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I remember seeing pictures of that dealership in the day. It needs to be put on tour! Bring it down to NNL East, either with cars or invite people to populate it.
dptydawg Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I was always impressed by the dioramas that Group 25 had on display at the Hobby Shows every fall and the International Centre in Malton. Somewhere I have slides of the Chrysler dealership. I hope to see it restored again. Carl
crazyrichard Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 looking great , love the glass work and how that creates all the subtile shadings that give it so much more feel and realism .. looks like it doest really need real work .. just some very nice modelcars inside and out , bit of dusting of .. and ...
Nick Winter Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 I remember Marty telling me about this not long ago, cool to see pictures of it. Any idea if it will start reappearing at area shows? Nick
Scalper Posted August 5, 2013 Author Posted August 5, 2013 Thanks Guys,.. Hey Nick Stay Tuned for area shows. Hope to see you at the contest.
Modelbuilder Mark Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 does group25 have an online photo colection of their dioramas?
Nick Winter Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Thanks Guys,.. Hey Nick Stay Tuned for area shows. Hope to see you at the contest. I'll be there, not sure what 1:1 I will have that day (kinda thinking I'd like to borrow a friends Duster or Vette), but myself and few builds will be there. Nick Nick
charlie8575 Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I remember seeing that display in a 1988 SAE show article, fully populated with several dozen mid-late '60s Chrysler products. Fantastic diorama and it's nice to see it's still in great condition. I do hope you folks can find a way to bring it to NNL-East. I'd love to see it up front and would be happy to loan a model for NNL to display with it. Charlie Larkin

Scalper Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 THe dealership will be on display this weekend.
disabled modeler Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Words cant even begin to describe how COOL that is!!!!....I love it...!!!! I had a 1970 new car dealership diorama started with a showroom but will have to start over from scratch again...bummer.
Swifster Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 BUMP - To The Top I'm curious how large this is as well. I was looking at building a small dealership and it was going to be on a 4' x 8' base.
Howard Cohen Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 The original display consisted of several bases of 4' x 4' linked together. At one point there were 6 bases including the showroom, service area, body shop, used car lot There was also a concours in a park that attached to the dealership. I have made displays that are 3' x 3', making them much easier to carry around. A 4x4 base may not fit in the average car anymore but a 3x3 does.
