martinfan5 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 (edited) maybe they test it in a few areas to determine if it will sell - and then go full on stocking? That could be what they are doing Edited August 14, 2013 by martinfan5
jrherald420 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Got the last can of white fine primer at mine today!!
jefropas Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Ditto, the white will work fine...thanks for the advice! Jeff
mikemodeler Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I stopped in the HL in Kannapolis NC today and they had 2 cans each of the gray and white primers. $10.99 before my coupon. They also had a bunch of models marked down 40% on clearance, so I picked up another Ford Van and was tempted to get a couple of others before the voices in my head said NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chief Joseph Posted August 17, 2013 Author Posted August 17, 2013 Got my coveted Fine White primer today, and noticed they had Tamiya weathering sets A to D on the pegboard now. So that's Putty, Primer, Tape, and Weathering Sets. If they'd add the paints and aerosols, we'd be set. They've obviously boosted the price a little on the Tamiya products because they know people are using the 40% coupons to buy them.
jrherald420 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Their prices are still cheaper than the LHS and Hobbytown USA without using a 40% off coupon.
Dr. Cranky Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I wish they would carry the whole Tamiya line of paints I agree.
jrherald420 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I must only be the only one that doesn't really care for them. I've used them on 4 different builds and had problems out of each can. 1 the paint wouldn't dry after 3 days, paint felt and looked like it was just sprayed and started to sag and run after the 2nd day. I want to say it was a red color, ended up tossing it in the trash. On a Mustang and a Shelby series 1 i used a racing blue and and a black color, they came out good till the clear coat went on. They both turned flat after the clear dried, Humidity was low and it was an 75 degree day. The gloss was better before the clear. Used a gloss yellow on a Corvette Le mans car and it also came out flat. Mist coated some Model Masters ultra gloss Lacquer on it and got a great gloss to it. I have also had Tayima gloss clear turn decals flat when trying to clear over them. Ive had a lot of weird stuff happen using their paints but i love the fine primers!! Best primer i have ever used!!
Austin T Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I agree. I am on the fence with this one. If HobbyLobby carried Tamiya paints they would be a lot cheaper and more avalible, but that would be a heavy blow to LHS's. I work at my LHS ,HobbyTown USA, and I know that if HL started to carry Tamiya paints we would take a substantial blow in sales. It's not that our price is high on Tamiya, it's just the next nearest place that carries it is in Nashville, and unless you want to save two cents it's not worth going there. But even it HL carried Tamiya paint 30% than our price it would still be cheaper with the coupon. And lets be totally honest model builders are frugal people, I stretch every coupon, discount, or reward I can just to shave of a few cents of my purchase.
martinfan5 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Checked my cloest HL, and they two had two cans of Tamiya Primer, as well as all the kits they pulled that are on clearence, now, lets hope no one finds the two that I hid before I can get back to buy them
Don Sikora II Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Saw the white and gray Tamiya primers at the HL in Racine, Wisconsin, a few days ago. It was on the bottom shelf to the left of the Testor's rack. They've been resetting the model aisle at the Racine and Kenosha stores the past couple of weeks and I seem to notice something new on each visit. Found one of the AMT tire packs the week before.
robertw Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 When I was in the Minot N.D. Hobby Lobby a week ago they had a few cans of both the grey & white Tamiya primer. I had a feeling they might have been brought in as an experiment since they were just sitting on a shelf beside the other paints and when I visited the Bismark store the next day they didn't have any.
martinfan5 Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 I just was at one location today, and they had more cans on hand then one our LHS, I think they had four cans of grey and two/three cans of fine white, I was in the same location last week, and after I left, they had one of each
