DrewCfromSC Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 wounder if the salvage yard is still there?
Longbox55 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I wouldn't call any of those vehicles "original". Original means that they are exactly as they were direct from the factory, not having 40-60 years worth of damage from improper storage/weathering and missing/incorrect parts from being picked over. The only reason the prices are what they are is from all the hype. Had he sold them outright, without the hype, the prices would be much lower, adnd closer to the actual value of the vehicles. Yes, the yard I'm thinking of is still there. It's in Tecumseh Indiana, about 6 miles north of Terre Haute.
Ramfins59 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 It's a pretty cool show with an amazing number of old cars, but I wish they'd focus more on the cars than all the other BS. With the prices people are paying for the cars they still have a ton of money to put into them to get them running again. Wish I had the bucks to do it myself. That's why I like building models... I can have all the old cars I want......at a fraction of the price... just can't drive 'em.

I don't think a '77 Vega sells for 11k due to hype .. if you were in the restoration business, you'd know how important these cars are ...
2000-cvpi Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I'm watching, the show could definitely focus more on the cars. The host that's not Faust or Rut is a idiot. It would be cool to see what happens to these after the auction ends.
The70judgeman Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Watched for about ten minutes and lost interest real fast. Especially with all the jaw-jacking and it being about all Chevy's.
2000-cvpi Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 The host didn't know what a resto mod is. How hard would it be to find a host that knows cars? It's ruining the show for me.
Casey Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Did anyone see Count Chuckula on site yesterday? https://www.proxibid.com/asp/LotDetail.asp?ahid=1530&aid=68561&lid=17400691&title=1963-International-100-Pickup It is pretty impressive what some of the '60's Chevy/GMC pickups brought, though, especially this $46K '60 Apache Stepside:
o-man Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Unrestored "barn finds" bring good money, especially with very low miles. I have a feeling a lot of these may be "cleaned" up and gotten in running condition but otherwise left alone. The more damaged ones may be restored or used for parts like that BB Chevelle with the crushed roof. I wonder if we will see some of these cross the auction block in the next year.

lordairgtar Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Trouble with these cars is, that they will need complete restoration work just as a rusty wreck with over 100,000 miles on it. And it will cost about the same, too.
KingSix Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Might be worth watching if only to get a laugh at what some of those people paid for those cars. I know that the wrecked Cameo went for far more that it would even be worth if it was in perfect condition. Considering how many Cameos were actually made (1405 in 1958 / how many are left ), add in the fact that it's the ONLY one in existence that has 1.5 miles on it ? Sure it's got some roof damage but it's otherwise immaculate. Never titled, registered, etc etc ? It was a very smart buy. Get a competent shop that can affect the repairs, without making it look like it was repaired ?? That thing would sell for a half million easy .. It was indeed a very smart buy for 140k ..
KingSix Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 (edited) Are you in the restoration business? Yes, 25 years. Several 1 of 1 cars to my credit. 1 of 1 1970 Baldwin Motion Buick 455 Stage 1 GSX, 1 of 1 1971 Buick GSX Artic White GSX with Black vinyl top.. ( one of 2 GSX's with a vinyl top, the other is a 1970 ) The owner of the shop I worked for in Marietta was the owner of the Baldwin Motion car, which recently sold to a gentleman in Florida. chevyfever2009 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I think these cars went for more then they worth even though there were a few that were never registered are titled there's an old saying that's where a man and his money parted ways
Tom Geiger Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I think these cars went for more then they worth even though there were a few that were never registered are titled It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy a car with no miles on it. If someone with money bought wanted it and the money doesn't matter to them, that's fine. It's the same thing as when you find a holy grail model on eBay and the bid is only $10 but you bid a maximum of $100 because you want it badly. Same thing but in a different financial bracket!
High octane Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Why all the fuss as we're talking about Chevys here, and pretty soon you'll be able to buy them at your local Walmart.
