One vet told me she just did this surgery on a Corgi and it was a piece of grass stuck in there. How weird is that? Another vet a week ago told me he's done a couple of these surgeries in the last month and pulled out a foxtail burr. Damn dogs! LOL

Ya that was what our guy had, the foxtail burr and they are hard to get all of the little stickers out since they are barbed or something on the end.

Got stung third time by the hornets from a nest on my front porch.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt first and second times, as I could see how their tiny little bug brains might think I was a threat as close as I was.

Today I was just getting water out of the hose stub a good 12 feet away.

They have ceased to be a problem.

Bill, man, I have a spray bottle of bleach water that I use on wasps that try building on our porch here...... Spray them good and wet and they can't fly. It doesn't 'end' the wasps, but they don't come back!

I'm sorry you got stung......

Welcome to the club Bill. I got stung earlier this week clearing a flower garden. right behind the stem of my glasses. Hit them hard right away with srpay (I didn't notice the nest they were building on my shed).

People who think they will die if they stop talking.Went to the Paxico Blues Fest today. Heard some great bands, but soooo many people were just talking and not listening. But Josh Hoyer and the Soul Colossal were fantastic.

There are some bug sprays available at the home box stores that has a battery-operated spray attachment and a good 10 foot in the air range. They used to try and hide in our roll up blind on the back patio. Not anymore.

Thanks. Normally I wouldn't have brought something so trivial up, but the hornets were excessively aggressive with zero provocation on my part.

And normally I don't have much reaction to insect stings, but my right calf muscles (where I was stung) are hard and feel like a strain from running, trying to cramp.

I'm sure it'll pass.

Though I really don't like killing "pests" that are just being themselves, I don't feel bad at all about sending all these little azz----- to the great bugfest in the sky.

EDIT: Apparently these are were paper wasps, going by the photos online.

I used to use the "bad" brake cleaner or carb cleaner sprays, both of which will shoot a stream several feet. When I'd encounter a nest under a tarp and really needed to get to something, I just didn't care about respecting the bugs' space and culture.

Anyway, all I had yesterday that would shoot a stream was Hilco Lube.

Not only did it take them out immediately (and make the nest uninhabitable for any that might return), I'm pretty sure they won't rust or squeak in the foreseeable future.

Maybe I'll try some of my old WD40 next time.

So, my area has had some nasty pop up thunderstorms last night and today.  Normally, they roll in, and roll out, no issues.

Last night they roll in and boom power out..... took them 8 hrs to fix the bloody stuff, I get it, takes time. Cool power came on things are good....

Today, the wind blew right before the storm hit, and power out... now I have a transformer on one corner of my block those jokers have dealt with for the last 3 years, (3 years ago it got smoked, and all they did then was blow out junk, rewire it, you can still see the scorch marks on it) Today I see the city electric truck roll by, turn left, and then hear the tell tale, back up alarm, and look out the back door, and hey he's at the same transformer that was smoked then, not even 5 minutes of him going up in the bucket, power pops on.

So like, hey city quit being cheap jack holes, and replace the transformer on the corner.  I understand repairs take time, but they wouldn't have to constantly fix the same transformer if they would replace it with a new one.

So irked is what I was, not mad, agitated or anything else just irked at the choices the city makes.

I hear you, Michael, but the City may not be able to get one. Some of those Transformers are essentially Handmade, Custom pieces. They may be waiting on one they ordered, and are just as anxious as you are to install a new unit rather than patch up the old one.

Of Course, the city may also be idiots....

And most of them are made in China. What's going to happen if big substations blow?

Those transformers can take over a year to replace, and we don't stock spares for most of that stuff.

Nobody ever talks about that, but America's infrastructure hangs by a thread.

And the normies just go la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la...

^^^^^^ That and we have a big substation in town as well.

I didn't know about the lead time .. thanks for the awareness.

I appreciate the additional awareness, as I truly didn't think of that.  Still irked but not nearly as I was since learning something new.

Living in a city, you probably don't have the option for an emergency generator, correct? That was the smartest decision I made with my place. Between the well pump and oil furnace, the whole house is electrically dependent.

A problem is that if a major substation goes down, it can affect a large area...including possibly the gas stations in the area you would buy fuel for your generator.

Granted that's an unlikely scenario, but it's good to have backups for your backups if possible..

Absolutely. I try to handle what I can, those things within my control , worst-case situation sit and wait or leave. If I could have found a generator that ran on fuel oil, I would have. To be clear, not "prepper", we have outages fairly regularly where I live. almost every winter or wind storm brings down lines either on my property, or nearby. Anything over a day(10-12 hours) we take off to family or a hotel. We've had 3 day long issues a few times.

Cat got other of the house at around 7 last night. Keep in mind, she's a fully indoor cat never goes outside. Didn't realize it for a bit, then we did, found some doorbell camera footage of her meowing at the door. The family had decided to go to sleep for the rest of the night because she used to be someone's outside cat a long time ago. In the morning she came up to the window that was open and started meowing pretty loud, when I opened the door she walked over to me so I scooped her up and brought her inside. Found a couple of burs on her, she definitely had a quite the adventure. Now I just hope she doesn't do it again.

Glad she's OK. Indoor cats that get out aren't always so fortunate.

I have an outdoor feral that's as tame and friendly now as any "indoor" cat I've ever had, will probably take him to the vet for shots and flea treatment before it gets cold, and then let him be indoor-outdoor. He's really acting like he'd like to be warm this winter. He's made it through two outside so far...though his mother and all his siblings and all his mother's siblings came to sad ends.
