FASTBACK340 Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Is this a great idea or what? Not that most of us would be able to close the doors....
southpier Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I think most would agree that unless you can walk up to the bench and pick up where you left off last time, most of the hobby hour goes to digging around for either tools or parts.
FASTBACK340 Posted October 6, 2013 Author Posted October 6, 2013 C`mon guys!! I'm sure there's that .008% amongst us that could operate in a setting like that! I agree. The doors would never meet if it was mine.... I have a small, but entire spare bedroom in my house I use. And it's tight....
Tom Geiger Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I agree. The doors would never meet if it was mine.... Mine either! Many years ago when we got our first PC, my wife wanted it out in our space so we could watch what our young daughters were up to. So we decided to put it in the dining room and I spent something like $500 for a cherry computer cabinet thingie that all folded up behind two doors so it would just look like furniture. Wrong! I don't think we ever shut the darn thing. And it didn't shut once we added a printer and scanner!
MikeyB08 Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I could make it work... I limit myself extremely to the tools I buy/use simply to conserve space. I also build models as I get them. No chance I will ever start a stash. To give you an idea, I often carry my tools with me from home to work in 2 clear tackle boxes. The only tools/ materials that don't move with me is my air compressor (even though it is portable) and my work table at work. When I bring my models home, it usually to only sand or final assembly. For me, too much space causes too many problems.
charlie8575 Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 John, Where did you find that, and do you have a direct link to the full product description? It might not be perfect, but it might be a good solution for me for the time being. Charlie Larkin
Joe Handley Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 For some reason, this comes to mind for most of our collections

I just thought it was a cool seed-idea for people in tight quarters.

I know Sauder had something similar, but not quite the same, at least from the picture, but I'm wondering if there's another option out there. http://www.sauder.com/Sauder/Craft-Furniture/Craft-Storage-Furniture/158097.aspx Given the price, I hope the other option is more affordable. Dr. Cranky Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 I think it'd be a perfect addition to a small apartment or house. I like the idea.
PappyD340 Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 I think it'd be a perfect addition to a small apartment or house. I like the idea. I agree with the Doc, would be a bit small for me though, being that I have 75% of my basement to myself.
Tom Geiger Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 A fellow on the udder board, Ray Gallant has a similar setup that he built into a room. You slide closets out of the way to get there. A very cool solution. As far as room, folks have to work with what they have. I'm fortunate to have a big model room and an extra basement room for the stash (aka- the model warehouse). Back when I started as an adult, I was working on my kitchen table. I had a board (that once was a shelf) that I was working on and a clamp on light. Every evening I'd work on my model and the last few minutes were spent packing up everything and putting the board, with the model still on it, on top of my refrigerator. I had small kids at the time. And ya know, I built some pretty good models that way!
