Q tip Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Starting out with just a cab from the parts box and an idea transformed into a full blown project to back date this to a 1974 4070a.
olsbooks Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Wow. Talk about a rag to riches! How did you make the air filter housing?
Q tip Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 the filter can is from the kw cabover kit, it was as close as I could get without scratch building one. so far I have about 15 hours of build time on this. it just seems to be falling together.the hardest part was filling in the head lights to make them look correct. most everything is either pulled from a parts box or scratch built........
Q tip Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 if anyone has any pics of a dash board or a site I could look up ,I would be greatly thankful for it.....thanks john
dodgefever Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Nice work so far, I like the looks of the early ones. How's this? Unfortunately, it's on Fotki, so many of the images are MIA. At least this one with the dash is still there...
Q tip Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Still going together rather well, most of the chassis is coming to an end.started the weathering and road wear, cab has been painted and decaled, you have to look close for the details.check out the missing quarter fender that had fallen victim to the blown tire on the catwalk.....enjoy,,john
bigred63 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Looking good so far! I like the color combo you have for the cab.
Q tip Posted October 27, 2013 Author Posted October 27, 2013 Had a clear coat scare this morning but was able to wash it off,it took some paint with it but luckily it worked in my favor since this is a weathered truck, turned out to simulate real road wear! Check it out.....thanks john
olsbooks Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Love the blown tire! Gives me an "out" the next time I destroy a perfectly good fender trying to make it better! Back in my model RR days, a common trick to beat up the freight cars (expecially those used to haul scrap iron) was to heat up a soldering gun and with different tips and just "create" the dents, tears, and creases. This one is going to be very believable when you get it done. A "nasty" trailer and some outdoor photography and it would definately require a second look!
Q tip Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 thanks for the good words, is being built for a buddy at the shop , he seen the cab (he is an IH nut ) and said" how much and build it," it will be kind of sad not to keep it, but I can turn the $ over for projects..win win.....john
kilrathy10 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 This is a good looking project, Man....Yeah, it will be a shame to let it go, but the money will come in handy......I like the weathering and the blown tire looks awesome....
Truck parts Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 That's a good looking build.I like the tire ,and fender idea.
williamchevelleman1972 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Starting out with just a cab from the parts box and an idea transformed into a full blown project to back date this to a 1974 4070a. looks great!! I was wondering how did you remove the paint from the cab?
BigBad Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Built that kit when I was about 15. It was my first Ertl kit International. I just loved it, went together nicely, looked great and had nice features such as the steering front axle, steering box linkages and a solid tilting cab. The only thing liked less was the long frame and at the time, cutting up a major component such as that was out of the question! I'm going to look for another kit of this. Yours is taking shape nicely man! I'm going to follow this with interest!
