59 Impala
This is my idea of what a Corvair should have been built like. I'm almost finished with this build. Here are some pics of what she looks like so far. The new trunk. Thanks fer lookin. Dan

59 Impala
Thanks for all the kind comments guys. I used a '77 Corvette frame underneath. I had to lengthen the frame about 1 foot in scale to fit the Corvair wheel base. I had a lot of fun building this car. This was the first time that I tried doing this type of build and I really enjoyed it. I installed the fan blade and radiator hose today and I haven't taken any pics of the finished car yet. I have all the build pics in my photobucket if you would like to see it from the begginning thru the finished car. Dan
59 Impala
cool, but do you think its safe (GM humor) I think it would be a little safer, but that would depend on who's driving I supose. :D Dan

lillakev
Wouldn't you like to take Ralph Nader for a spin in one of these! He would be the one "unsafe at any speed".
DonW
Is the spare 'Vette shell you have on the bench destined to get a rear-mounted flat six and swing axles?
59 Impala
Is the spare 'Vette shell you have on the bench destined to get a rear-mounted flat six and swing axles? No sir, that's a different build all together. I'm restoring it. It is a 67 and I lowered it a tad. Kinda like a racer in a way. I'll post some pics of it. 59 Impala
Is the mufflers very close to the ground in the last picture. Very cool build... They are in the same place as the Corvette. I didn't alter the chassis other than lengthen it to fit the Corvair wheel base. Here is a pic from the rear. The pipes are kinda low, but they are in the same position as on the Corvette. I'm not sure if I can move them a little to make them fit up under a little better. I'll check into than possibility.
