JPolli Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Looking for a resin 39 Studebaker body to build "The Boss" gasser. Might anyone know if a resin is available? Thanks.
dimaxion Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Hey , I would be in for any Independent . I have my fill of Brand X . Ford and MoPar will fit the bill also . Thanx ..
krassandbernie Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 I'd love to see one too; but there really isn't much to use as a 'starting point' to master one. I'm not saying it can't be done; but it would take a ton of work. This would be a great subject for Revell or AMT to do.
fractalign Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 This most certainly has a starting point. The body looks identical to the 1:24 scale Monogram 1939 Chevy Coupe. The headlights look similar to the Revell 1941 Willys coupe. The grill could easily be scratch built. This does not look too hard to put together. As for Revell or AMT doing their own....forget it !
mr moto Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 That's a very cool subject! Good luck with the project. I think Fractalign is on the right track about how to do it. Unfortunately, he's also right about waiting on Revell or AMT - don't hold your breath!
Jantrix Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I think the '39 Chevy is your best bet. After staring at my build up, the B-pillar would have less lean in it. The trunk and rear fenders lengthened after the wheel arch. The hood tip flattened a bit and the grill looks very doable since it's obviously a fabricated piece. More pics for ya. http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicles/1309_1939_studebaker_coupe_the_boss/
krassandbernie Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I did not for one second overlook the '39 Chevy...............but, it's a 1/24th scale kit; which is a huge turn-off for me and many others. It also limits the availability of parts to kit bash it with if a Studebaker master were to be derived from it.
Deano Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Well ... after sitting here for a (way too long) while,I've come to the conclusion that the 39 Stude and the 39 Chevy are similar but not all that close. In fact, the only really close feature is the roof profile. Everything else is going to require cutting and fabricating. The roof might be a smidge too wide or too long but, since you're already slicing and dicing you might as well shorten/narrow it too. 39 Chevy looks like the best place to start, but it's still going to take a raft of work to pull it off. As for the "it's too big" argument, you'd already be cuttin', just cut some more!
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Great comparison pix, Rob. There's enough info there to measure and scale out everything that needs to be done, and your analysis of the major differences is spot-on. As for the "it's too big" argument, you'd already be cuttin', just cut some more! X-actly.
Jantrix Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I just noticed, that if you switched the Chevy fenders front to back, it might get you even closer? Kinda wierd that.
jbwelda Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 those are some way kool cars! love the stude but those chevys are great too!
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 I just noticed, that if you switched the Chevy fenders front to back, it might get you even closer? Kinda wierd that. Man, you have a good eye. That's cool.
Craig Irwin Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I did not for one second overlook the '39 Chevy...............but, it's a 1/24th scale kit; which is a huge turn-off for me and many others. It also limits the availability of parts to kit bash it with if a Studebaker master were to be derived from it. The 39 Chevy was an update on the 37/38 Chevy, which AMT made, but would require more work and is 1/25.
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 The 39 Chevy was an update on the 37/38 Chevy, which AMT made, but would require more work and is 1/25. Gee...all MY '39 Chevies are Monogram, and they're 1/24.
Craig Irwin Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Gee...all MY '39 Chevies are Monogram, and they're 1/24. I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I ment that the 39 Chevys that GM built were reskins of the 37 and 38's that they made. As AMT made a 1/25 37 it could be used as a starting point, but it would require more work to be correct. Yes, all Monogram 39's are 1/24.
krassandbernie Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 The '37-'38 Chevy coupes were not the same body as a '39.....no where near close. Just like the '36 was not as close to the '37 as the '38 was...........way too many differences in the roof, quarter windows, fenders, etc. The '38's were pretty much the same as the '37's with the exception of the hood, grille, and belt line (body wise). 1939 marked the crossover to the new body style.
