Was wondering if anyone knew anything about this particular model. I am interested in locating one and possibly building a 10.5 Tire Drag car out of one. This particular model that is shown in the pictures was a gift years ago from my uncle. He came across it and a bunch of other already assembled models at a garage sell and they were being given away.. Things I have noticed that could be better at first glance is the cowl hood and T Top Glass. The cowl hood looks horrible and I'm not even sure if it is true to the kit. Also the T-Tops do not line up with the top of the car in the slightest... Basically what I am interested in is the 4 eyed head light look. Absolutely love that style..

I built the MPC kit Way back then, (Still Have it)

That is an addition to the hood. Looks like a Seat back, or toolbox piece

It looks Too Flat accross the hood. It should taper at the front

I do not remember having to add the Cowl Induction scoop to the hood.

But that Was a Long time ago!!!

Monogram also offered the 79 Pace car kit.

Besides scale, the differences I know about are;

MPC offered the T-top, You cut the roof along marked grooves,

then separated the 2 pieces. and glued a T shaped piece in to the underside

of the roof. This kit also had Both an In-line 4 and the 302 V8 of the Pace car.

Monogram's kit had a Sunroof like Dealer Replica's.

I do not know about engine options.

I thought the Monogram kit Had been re-issued. They have re-issued the

78 Vette at least twice in the past 10 years!!

I have one of those!h

Here are a couple pic's of my 79 Mustang;

Thanks for the info. Would be absolutely awesome if they did a 4 eyed Notch (Coupe) in 1/25 I would buy soo many of them LOL.. Here is the under side and upon further review, you are right about the Hood. The cowl hood was loose on this one and fell right off and the hood that was under it looks like the one you have in your picture.. Not sure what the builder was thinking with the cowl hood addition...

That's the 1/25 MPC kit, and there was also the 1/24 Monogram "Mustang Hatchback Pace Car" kit:

OK cool, thanks. Chances of getting another unbuilt MPC are pretty slim I assume.. ?

They are out there but you gotta pay. I have a few and several 84.5 anny cars too. Just a little factoid. Only 3 pace cars received t tops. They were the actual race used cars and all replicas were either sunroof or solid roofs

Awesome Factoid ! I'll have to bring that up next time i'm at the car shows LOL. The local Junk yard has one sitting up on the car racks just rotting away. Still has the roll cage and slicks on it !! Probably one of the 3. The junk yard I am talking about is an all ford junk yard and is called "Rusty Acres" maybe you can find some pics..

If I remember correctly , this version -the Monogram kit- featured the correct tyres (the Michellin [sp] 390's or somethinf like that) , whereas the MPC kit ostensibly had the carry-over Good Year Polyglas tyres from the 70's (!).

As a side note -The V8 in the "1:1" Mustangs of this era were actually 221 or 225 cube engines (or so I've heard / read) and not the coveted 302 (colloq , "5-litre") . The 302 (same Windsor-series as the 221) didn't *return* until the '82 or '83 model year .

The '79-only got the 302, the '80 and '81 got the 255 V8; an engine that was a creature of it's era, and that Ford fans would rather you forget about. The '82 re-introduced the 5.0/302 in the new GT.

I got a glue bomb of one of these in a lot of mustangs I picked up on Ebay. It's pretty rough. There was a yellow "Super Cobra" in the lot with it. I'll take the two and make one good kit of of the two, probably with the markings of the pace car.
