RatRod Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I was looking at Round 2's updated website this afternoon, and in the Bugaboo reissue, it says " The Kats at AMT have finally been able to acquire licensing for select Volkswagen related kits" It goes on to say that "Bugaboo is the first off the line" Hmmmmm, this is interesting. Could we be treated to something like these? Or could we see some of the John Bogosian designed VW caricature kits.... ^^^ (I know what some of you are saying about those last three, but C'mon.... ) I know that AMT has other VW based kits like the Superbug Gasser, the Scirocco, and Rabbit kits that would excite many!! I'll continue in a new post........
RatRod Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 (edited) This brings me to the thought, is this deal with just the AMT brand, or Round 2? If it's a whole company thing, then here's a couple buggys that MPC did.... How about the 1/20 scale buggys from MPC, and IMC (Lindberg had these molds, and was getting ready to release the Surf Buggy before Round 2 bought them out) I'm sure there's more that just might be in Round 2's inventory, any thoughts? Howard Cohen Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I built a Shalako a few years ago for a friend who had an original sealed kit. I would like one for myself, along with Bugs Buggy and a few Dean Jeffries pieces. If the rights are for Round 2, that should include all of their properties.
Casey Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I don't think the VW license applies to any of the buggy kits in your last post, and AFAIK the ex-IMC 1/20 Surf Buggy kit is still going to be released in 2104 under the Lindberg label. Ed Sexton of Revell mentioned that dealing with VW was not easy due to VW having an entirely new department handling licensing, so perhaps it was the same situation with Round2 and VW. Did Round2 obtain licensing from VW when they released both version of the Meyers Manx?
RatRod Posted November 11, 2013 Author Posted November 11, 2013 Did Round2 obtain licensing from VW when they released both version of the Meyers Manx? That would be a good question answered by one who knows!!! I'm sure that some sort of permission with the Elvis Presley Estate would be needed. I personally thought that was a lame reissue of the Manx, maybe if they would have made the few alterations needed to make that buggy correct. I just know that Round 2 didn't get my hard earned money for one.
pack rat Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Licensing has to be obtained for each individual kit. The VW Zinger would have been approved a few years ago, and they would have to repeat the process each time a new release is planned (i.e. the Bugaboo)
gasman Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 (edited) Please round 2, reissue the amt vw rabbit and scirocco Edited November 11, 2013 by gasman
Darren B Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 vw rabbit would be a great old kit to bring back, I second that motion.
Craig Irwin Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 The name "Volkswagen" is used severial times in the Meyers Manx instructions so some kind of agreement was found.
Dave Van Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Been asking for the VW bus series for a while......hope they happen!
Greg Myers Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Been asking for the VW bus series for a while......hope they happen! Then there's the demise of the bus. http://www.theverge.com/2013/9/26/4772614/last-vw-bus-to-be-produced-this-year
