Porscheman Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 This one started out as a Monterey promo that was in pretty bad shape. I got it off ebay cheap. The body and top were badly cracked. I used the 61 Galaxy for the top and glass. I replaced top top with the Galaxies and repaired all the body cracks. The tires were replaced with Round 2 60's white wall and the body was painted in Krylon's Ocean Breeze, which is very close to the original Mercury's Turquoise. This is a replica of my parents car and the car I learned to drive on. The way you can tell a Metero is by the body color tail light surround. Let me know what you think or any suggestion to improve it. Thanks A
realgone58 Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Al, that came out super nice! You'd never know that was the same kit. Color is perfect, and great idea going with the lesser Meteor.
PappyD340 Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Al, I think it looks super NICE, and I never knew that about the tail light surround, huh, learn something new every day!!
Porscheman Posted November 26, 2013 Author Posted November 26, 2013 Thanks Alan and Larry. The top from the Ford was a perfect fit. I alway had a thing for the Meteor, you just don't see many. Al
Erik Smith Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Meteor or Monterey? Either way, nice job!! Love those early 60s Mercs! Great model and save.
slusher Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Nice resto and save Al. Real nice color choices. Great looking model..
Ron Hamilton Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 My Dad had a Meteor 4-Door Hardtop in the same color in the laate '60's as a 2nd car, Beautiful build.
exnyman Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Steve, that is the Canadian variant. That rear end is quite wild looking, but I like it! In the US, there were two Meteors, the 600, and the 800. The 800 looks like Porscheman's model. The 600 had oval taillight units. Here is a link to a Meteor 600 showing the different taillights: http://www.examiner.com/article/bridging-the-gap-the-1961-mercury-meteor-600
ChrisBcritter Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 (edited) Very nice work! What type of cement did you use to attach the styrene roof to the Cycolac promo body and repair the cracks? Did you have to add gussets under the pillars? Edited November 27, 2013 by ChrisBcritter
Ramfins59 Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 You just keep on knocking them out from your workbench Al. Another great job.
Porscheman Posted November 27, 2013 Author Posted November 27, 2013 (edited) Very nice work! What type of cement did you use to attach the styrene roof to the Cycolac promo body and repair the cracks? Did you have to add gussets under the pillars? Thanks again guys. I just used instead glue with an accelerent and nothing else was needed, top fit that we'll. The body cracks were popped back in place and a little putty was applied and sanded smooth.
