Speedfreak Posted November 29, 2013 Author Posted November 29, 2013 Thanks Ray, means a lot to me. I'm sure people are getting a little tired of '41 Willy's, but, I had no idea when I started this two months ago that so many get shown on here. Oh well, it was a great experience and I've learned a lot.
Speedfreak Posted November 29, 2013 Author Posted November 29, 2013 Thanks Adam, I got it at Wal-Mart! Before I knew that it's not the best paint for styrene plastic.
Dinky Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Nice, I like the color! It turns out very good on the outside pictures. Next time give the grill a black wash to add some extra detail. By the way your modelling skills are better than your photography skills
slusher Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Beautiful build. Great finish and color choice. Real nice work Gene..
Speedfreak Posted November 29, 2013 Author Posted November 29, 2013 (edited) Thanks Arno! You're right, there is a wash on the grill, but, it's not black. Next time I'll use black. LOL, It's the camera, old Kodak 'Easy Share, it just won't do close-ups. Tomorrow I'm going to look at camera's. Thanks for the compliment Carl, I put everything I had and then some into this build. I almost gave up a couple of times, glad I didn't. Edited November 29, 2013 by Speedfreak
PappyD340 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 GORGEOUS Willys GENE, well there might be a bunch of Willis on here, but there is always something a little different, great work!!
Dinky Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 (edited) I put everything I had and then some into this build. I almost gave up a couple of times, glad I didn't. Don't give up, Just put it away for some time and start again when you have fresh motivation :-) Edited November 29, 2013 by Dinky
Speedfreak Posted November 29, 2013 Author Posted November 29, 2013 Thanks Chris, Did you use BMF on the seat inserts of your '70 T/A? Looks like you might have, that's what I used here, then some semi-gloss clear. Thanks Larry! You're right about there alway's being something different on Willy's. I just love those cars and so do a lot of people. I love your Mario quote, touches my heart. Dinky, thanks for the encouragement, you do some great builds. Keep me on the straight and narrow! Ira, I am grateful for the kind and gracious words. Your builds are fabulous! If you only knew how the paint scheme came about for this car, totally spur of the moment/mother of disaster kind of thing.
rv1963 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I like it, the color is different but I like it, the chassis looks very good from what I can see. You could just back up about 6 inches and than take the pics, that may help.
Dinky Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Thanks Gene. During my Willys build I had multiple issues with paint and clear-coat. I removed the body and interior paint multiple times, It was frustrating and I put it away for 7 months After all it was a good decision because it worked out nice when I had fresh ideas and motivation.
Custom Hearse Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Nice job Gene! the car looks really cool!!!
Jordan 191 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I just painted a '40 Ford with Testors Model Master French Blue. At least in pics, the overall concept is very similar. The huge difference is that your build is beautiful and mine may never see the light of day!
Speedfreak Posted November 30, 2013 Author Posted November 30, 2013 Hey you guys thanks! Robert, I got a new camera today, should help, thanks for the compliment on the frame/chassis! Andy, thanks for the huge compliment. French blue is a great color, I know it well. Maybe things will work out with the Ford, if not there's alway's the purple pond, this car went for a swim three times! Dinky, This car started out 'Competition Orange, which is the color I wanted it to be, the interior was going to be the color that is now on the body. Circumstances ruled on the final colors. Marshall, thanks man! Jim, " When it shines, it's fine! First unprepared/staged shot with new camera:
