ChrisBcritter Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Has anyone produced a photoetch set (or at least emblems) for the AMT '65 Continental? I have a '64 in my current project stash and once I got three coats of paint stripped, found a lot of the emblems were sanded down or off .
rickcaps55 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Hi no one has made any photoetched parts for that car. If this helps I have taken a piece of tinfoil and put over a good emblem on a good body and then filled the foil with epoxy and let set and trim it and glue it to the rebuild it's not bad good luck. Rick.
ChrisBcritter Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 That would be my next option; I have other Continentals I could pull a mold from OR I could get a '65 convertible and swap the rear quarters... Still, with all the years the '65's been in production, you'd think someone would have done a photoetch set by now?
Casey Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Still, with all the years the '65's been in production, you'd think someone would have done a photoetch set by now? I think this was the last reissue under the Buyer's Choice program in '97, so going on 17 years ago. Is there enough demand for 100 sets of p/e details for a '65 Lincoln Continental, and someone willing to do all the drawing and layout for the pieces?
Rasputen Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I could probably print you some chrome foil decals of the scripts - I need to print some for my station wagon project anyway. What we really need a PE replacement for is that clunky hood ornament...
Chuck Most Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I think this was the last reissue under the Buyer's Choice program in '97, so going on 17 years ago. Last issue was 2007- same box art as the '97 reissue, but with a "Nostalgia Series" oval blurb printed on the box top.

Chuck Most Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Looks like I may have stand corrected as well- looks like 2005 or 2006 on that box copyright.
Tom Geiger Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 think this was the last reissue under the Buyer's Choice program in '97, so going on 17 years ago. Aftermarket parts sell when the kit is current. The Lincoln isn't all that detailed a kit to begin with, so I don't see people coming up with $$ to super detail it. I'd be swapping quarters, would be a better end result than foil cast, unless Brian can print good chrome looking decals!

Rasputen Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I just print decals with an ALPS printer and a chrome foil cartridge. It is a thousand times easier than trying to use BMF. Plus, if you want to have the emblem on top of woodgrain, like on a wagon, I don't know of any other method. Here is a Renault Alpine I did - The A-L-P-I-N-E letters are a decal:

I'm surprised that some enterprising soul hasn't offered scripts done with chrome foil decals commercially. I understand that ALPS is an endangered species. Still amazed that a better new type printer hasn't come about!
Ron Hamilton Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I just Bare Metal foil over the scripts before paint, and after polishing when there is not a photoetch set for a kit. However, I prefer photoetch scripts. And yes, I like Lincoln Continentals, as this bohemoth is the next one in line to be restored.
Edsel-Dan Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 I have one of the recent re-issues to build. And a couple Originals. Plus, I have one of those 60's to restore. Too bad some one before me Sanded the right side of the body! I need to replace the Chrome spears in the insert, And the insert surround!!! The surround is not too hard. But the spears!!!!!!!! I think the script are salvageable (at least I hope so Been a while since I examined her!)
