cobraman Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 (edited) This is the next wip on the bench. Will be mostly stock with one little twist. Edited December 13, 2013 by cobraman
PappyD340 Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Very NICE Ray, can't wait I know the twist will be COOL!!
Guest Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Just curious as to why you picked AMT's dinosaur instead of Revellogram's nice one?
slusher Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 I always enjoy your projects and builds Ray. Looking forward to it..
cobraman Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 Lee, I picked this for only one reason.................price ! : ) I got it pretty cheap.
slusher Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Ray l have only seen the AMT kit built one time years ago and he had issues with the kit....
cobraman Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 Thanks Larry and Carl. Carl, I have issues with almost every kit . : ) Maybe it was cheap for a reason I was not aware of. Wouldn't be the first time. The little "twist" is really no big deal. I just plan on building it as kind of a "what if " had Ford adopted the rear wing like the Mopars had. So I am just basicly adding the wing from another kit. I think it will look cool if I can get it together.
slusher Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 I am sure you can build it but when l have issues with a kit its major. I have never owned this kit. l saw the WIP on this model on scale auto a few years back...
Jantrix Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Ray l have only seen the AMT kit built one time years ago and he had issues with the kit.... I picked it up years ago (20+?) and the fitment on the Talladega nose/grill was crazy bad. I've no idea what I did with the kit. Best of luck to you.
Guest Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 I see, lol, good reason. Looking forward to it!

PappyD340 Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I built that kit also a few years ago Ray, I don't remember any fitment issues, actually did it as a David Pearson/Wood Bros #21 turned out really nice until it got knocked off the work bench and unfortunately was beyond repair, may have to get me another one there are a few on ebay that are fairly reasonable. A winged Torino, hadn't thought about that one, but it sounds COOL!!
cobraman Posted December 8, 2013 Author Posted December 8, 2013 I did a dry test fit and the front clip does indeed fit rather poorly but it is fixable. Itching to get started on this but have been busy puting up the outside Christmas lights and decorations. Still have other stuff I need to get done till I can devote time to this wip. Have to put up the tree ( artifical pre lit ) other inside decorations, shampoo a couple of rooms carpets and install a new surround sound system. Good thing I'm retired. : )

Good thing I'm retired. : ) I did that last week Ray but l did not have to do the tree. l had the wife and son help. I bought a little sign in the mens section at Hobby Lobby, and it says[ Stop asking me to do things I am retired..]
james460 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I built this kit many years ago as the # 17 H&M nascar race car. To make the front fit better I removed the front radiator wall. attached the Tally front, puddied and sanded, then reinstalled the radiator wall. I'm not the best at body work but this turned out to be my best effort, ever, at the time. You could probably just split the radiator core support. It moved the front apart about 1/16" .
cobraman Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 James, did that modification make the hood to narrow ? Carl, that sign looks like just what I need. Next time I go to Hobby Lobby I will have to look for it.
Dave Van Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 The AMT kit CAN be built into a nice model. The T nose has to be glued on and then putty applied but the kit still fits well and has lots of options. The RM T is a decent kit....but in 1/24 scale HUGE on the shelf.....zero options....and the detail is not a GREAT improvment over the AMT. I've built a number of them.
Davewilly Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I built one a few years back...I didnt see problems with it...year you have to add the front piece and do some putty work but not a big deal really. here is a photo of it
cobraman Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 Yours looks great Dave, thinking about using yellow on mine as well. Other Dave : ) your right about extra options. It has 8 tires and 3 sets of wheels plus others.
Guest Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 FYI Ray, if you are doing it stock, it came in only 3 colors, black, maroon and presidential blue, a dark metallic blue.
cobraman Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 Thanks Lee. Have not commited to a color yet. Did sling some putty on the front end. May be able to shoot some primer tomorrow but would like it a bit warmer. 55 here in the Phoenix area right now.
cobraman Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 You didn't know that Petty had a limo ? : )
Lunajammer Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I guess when you're a king... Very clever. Thanks for the chuckle.
james460 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Actually it spreads the nose out a little. I think my problem was where the Tally nose attached to the Torino the fenders were to narrow. Tally nose was to wide. Left a hump where they attached. By cutting the core support you could spread out the fenders and not have such a large hump to feather out. It's only about a 1/16" I looked at the car last night. It didn't make the hood fit any worse. Everything looks straight. It's been twenty years since I built the kit and the body work is still intact. Can't say the same for the rest of the car.
