ratchetman87 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) Bleach works great for stripping chrome, its almost instantaneous and no harm to the plastic that ive noticed. As far as paint ive heard that certain oven cleaners will do the job as long as its not the fumeless stuff. Just be sure to use rubber gloves to avoid skin irritation, just a friendly reminder. Also after stripping paint and chrome wash off any residue left behind from the chemicals with warm soapy water and an old tooth brush. Edited January 3, 2014 by ratchetman87
DriftingRookie Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Thanks but I sure have a lot to learn. Question? Anyone know where I can get a blower, pulleys and intake, maybe also some better valve covers for my Hemi. It's 1/24 scale out of the revell 71 Hemi Cuda kit. Motor is quite a bit bigger than 1/25 scale motors I have in my other kits. vcgresins.com will be a good place to start. love what your doing to the cuda
oldscool Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) You can get complete blower setups in some of the other 1/24 Revell kits such as their other Mopar kits. Edited January 3, 2014 by oldscool
FASTBACK340 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 ……………………… …….. WOW! Certified MAD MAN in da house!!!! I love your post "I have no idea what I'm doing". Looks to me like your getting a good taste of an addiction. We pray for your recovery! Bob, your a man after my own heart. Years ago when slot cars were happening I went to the races 3 weeks in a row watching and asking questions. Came back week #4 and dropped about $300 in one shot and had a ball for the next few years. Your in deeeeeep dude. DEEEEEEP. And wait until how reasonable model are compared to restoring old Mopars. Especially A bodies….. $400 for an old Hemi under Glass kit is a relative bargain compared to $600 for trunk trim on the 1:1! Keep at it. Slice, dice, carve, create. Make it YOURS.

FASTBACK340 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Al, the front fenders on my 1:1 Barracuda are worth more than what I paid for the entire car 16 yrs. ago….
W-409 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) I still have to strip the carbs and paint them any suggestions so I can get the correct look for them. There's no need to strip the paint from the carbs. You could drill the throats (?) open and add nozzles (?) there (I'm not sure if their English words are those) and then paint them with a mixture of Clear orange paint and dirty thinner. I did that on my '62 Impala engine and I think the color is quite good. Here is a picture of the Dominators on my '71 Barracuda: The golden parts are just Revell Gold paint brushed over the chrome. I like what you're doing here. The Cuda is looking great. I hope this helps. Edited January 3, 2014 by W-409
Skypower Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 Wow thanks for all the input and advice, it sure helps a lot. Look what showed up at my office this morning. I figured I needed some supplies so I don't have stop every time I decide I want to do something to a build, I'm not organized enough to order what I want before I start building, I'm just a kinda wing it guy, so this should help by having some stuff on hand.
W-409 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Thanks John. When I have a W-Block on my bench, I have to try to do it a justice. And I'm really happy with that one, too. Look what showed up at my office this morning. I figured I needed some supplies Wow, looks like your local Hobby Show just ran out of Aftermarket Goodies!
Skypower Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Now all I have to do is get them in the house past the wife. lol Thanks for the info on my build. Your work is awesome, I hope can get to that level some day.
FASTBACK340 Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Now all I have to do is get them in the house past the wife. lol Yup…. your in DEEEEEEEEEP
Skypower Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Well I'm still treading water, but you guys are right I'm in way over my head, I better learn to float. lol
tbill Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Bob, looking great so far, looks like you know what your doing [or real good at faking it ]. as far as 'getting it past the wife', just do like I did, " honey, it's a mid-life crisis, better it be plastic than buying a flashy sports car we can't afford and hanging out at the bar. plus, i'm home and in the other room" that worked so well, she buys me kits on occasion, and lets me wander hobby lobby on my own [with my own basket no less]
Skypower Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Hey Tom it was the wife who bought me the first kit now she just shakes her head at what she created. I guess she figures at least I'm not jumping out of airplanes anymore so all is good. I really have a great wife she lets me do just about anything I want and supports me in most all my endeavors. I am very Blessed.
tbill Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 that's a good thing, my wifes the same way, she calls me her plastic geek now, lol. upside is, now when she tells me to go to my room, i'm happy, haha.
Skypower Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) Tonight's attempt at doing something with the carbs, i think they came out ok. what do you think? Also tire selection, I chose the taller skinnier tire. I didn't get much done tonight, I was playing tug with my dog and he shook his head really hard and whacked the coffee table. He gave himself a concussion, what a nightmare that was, scared us half to death since he is the only kid we still have at home, our youngest son left for Tallahassee yesterday for school. Sorry couldn't get a very good pic of the carbs or motor. Edited January 4, 2014 by Skypower
W-409 Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 I think the carburetors look excellent! Really nice work with that engine. Wheel and tire choice is very good, too. I've always liked those wheels. Heh, once I found a cheap Jo-Han Pro Street Rambler kit (Sealed) and I bought it immediately. I had to bring it home so that no one can see it, because if I had tried to explain that 'Yeah Yeah it was really cheap', probably no-one would have believed that, since it's sealed Jo-Han kit...
Skypower Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 Just getting some ideas of how it will look, still got a ways to go.
TFchronos Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 That is one mean looking Hemi Cuda, can't wait to see it finished.
Skypower Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Few more bits done on the motor while I am waiting on primer and paint to dry on the chassis and seats. Also I'm trying to decide on two stock seats or one race seat. Can't decide if its a race car or a fun street car. what do you think. Dash and steering wheel are being stripped to be redone.
