Kevin Doheny and Larry Fullerton's gorgeous Mustang funny car ............. winner of the 1972 NHRA World Finals at Amarillo, Texas (my home town) ............ the car had a "Trojan Horse" story during the World Finals .................. First off, Kevin Doheny is from the oil rich Doheny family (Doheny Drive in Beverly Hills is named after them) and Larry Fullerton's uncle is Dale Drake (of Meyer-Drake-Offenhauser fame) ............ so this car was not under funded (which could be seen by the $10,000 mural of the Trojan Horse by Kenny Youngblood in the rear window area) ............. but it was pretty much unknown outside of California ............. they towed the car to Amarillo on an open trailer behind a shabby '66 Ford pickup ............ and stayed at Terry LeGate's house (right down the street from my house) claiming they didn't have enough money to stay at a hotel or motel ............. they played the "Trojan Horse" routine to the hilt ............ then on Sunday they busted the competition and won the whole thing rather convincingly .............. what a hoot, and a real "Trojan Horse" scenario

VERY nice build.

Hi, nice build. I like that body. Are those Slixx decals? Any trouble with them? I am in the midst of doing the Muldowney Fredricks of Hollywood car and some of the slixx decals are driving me nuts - cracking and splitting badly. Micro Scale decal film is helping some, but not enough!!

BTW, The Trojan Horse did not win the '71 Worlds Finals, Phil Castronovo won that http://www.nhra.net/50th/news/headlines.html?year=1971

Looks like Fullerton won it in '72: http://www.nhra.net/50th/news/headlines.html?year=1972

Thanks for catching my "fat finger" ....... Castronovo indeed won in '71, this car won in '72 ........... have corrected the original post :wacko:

Yes, these are Slixx decals ........... coated them twice with Testors Decal Bonder and had no problems at all with them .............. only thing is that the bonder creates one entire sheet and you must trim each item out separately like on a Fred Cady sheet ............. but it works great

Beautiful model of a beautiful car John! It's been on my "to do" list for some time. I liked your story too. It's interesting that some of that big money wasn't used to upgrade their tow vehicle, etc.
