Jairus Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Get your attention now? Definition: Someone who builds scale model cars but abhors putting motors in them so much that they refuse to acknowledge their very existence. I CONTEND THAT THIS VERY FORUM IS 98% OCCUPIED BY SUCH RACISTS! This is something I encountered a few years ago here at MCM forums and to this day I still do not understand. You see it wasn't like that back in 1964. I have stacks of Model Car Science and Car Modeler which both feature static models and slot cars in them. My friend Jimmy Keeler used to write articles back then on detailing and some of his wiring and plumbing articles would follow an article on how to make working suspension in a slot car! (Those guys were bad azz I tell you da truth!) In fact, nearly all of the slot cars back in the day were based on model car kits so that companies like Monogram, Revell and AMT would use the very same mold for a beautiful Porsche 906 model kit with full detailing AND the same body found it self into a slot car kit. Same decals, different driver but same mold used for the body. That meant SCALE was important to the slot car builder up till 1967. But, that's a topic for another time. What I think we have here is racism pure and simple. The fear of racing something someone spent time building. And some race cars are very beautiful! On the flip side, some slot cars are not built just for racing. Many become shelf queens and dust collectors just as ALL model cars ultimately become. So back to my contention that this forum is populated by racists. My proof is that I set up a poll of sorts asking the very members of MCMforums to please pick their favorite scratchbuilt balsa wood carved model race ccar and after a week we have hundreds look at the thread but only three votes! THREE VOTES ONLY! What the heck is going on? Prove me wrong. Show me you are not the racists I believe you to be. Click the link, look over the 8 entries and pick one please.http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=83681 Thank you, Respectfully submitted,
Greg Myers Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I would tend to think it might be fewer people look at the Racing thread at the bottom of the list
cobraman Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I saw and read the thread but never saw a poll in the format I am used to seeing when a poll is taken.
MsDano85gt Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I'm confuse ded I know I post many things like my mustang builds on the bench forsay and it gets TONS of views, but only very few people make comment on the thread so it ends up at the bottom of the stack until I update the thread with a pic or whatever then people see it again and a few folks make comments again then back to the bottom of the many pages here its a cycle....... but I really don't get whats being said here about slot cars and whatnot?!?
Jairus Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 The poll set up here only allows 5 questions. Thus... you have to read the post to understand. I can see the confusion.
Danno Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I voted. May I vote again? Is this Chicago? Or Wussington DC? Or are we restricted to only one vote? Sheesh. I used to be a scale bigot. Now I'm a racerist, too!
Harry P. Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I voted. May I vote again? Is this Chicago? Yes, vote early and vote often. Especially if you're dead. It's the Chicago Way...
Jairus Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 A number of years ago we had a poll just like this on a slotforum.com based in Europe. But they used the software's polling system. Close to 18 entries were present along with mine and back then SF had more than 10,000 members. The numbers were crazy in the voting. But we started noticing that suddenly the membership began growing by leaps and bounds. You see, it seems an individual can have an number of log-on's. Back then each new member was going to one thread to vote on the poll and never posted anywhere else. Just log in and vote the Chicago way... I noticed one builders poll number double in one day so I brought it to the attention of a moderator. The poll was taken down shortly after. I like this system better. Thank you all for posting a vote. Makes it easier and fairer when a name (I.D.) is next to a vote for something isn't it?
gbdolfans Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I vote for the Mercedes.Clean body and paint.Nice figure.Very simple and nice chassis!!
LoneWolf15 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Slot cars! Seriously? Who cares? You should ! I've noticed more than a few of your bodies being used on the drag cars in the slot world !
Skip Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I didn't see it until I saw this, I voted with all my multiple personalities (one that I know of), but they're mad at each other at the moment so they're not speaking.... I actually like slot cars a lot, but only check this forums slots section once and a while since it is pretty slow at times. Having painted a wood body a time or two (Pinewood Derby Cars), I have to commend you on that beautiful shining red paint. Bet it's even better in person!
