We often see questions along the lines of "What is the correct..." especially from newer members. In the past I tried to be helpful by finding and posting examples of the subject in question from Google Images. This would usually benefit the OP as well as anyone else who had the same question later.

In the last year or so, I've noticed that our system rejects about 95% of the images i try to post. Why is that?

I don't have Fotki/Photobucket accounts, and to my way of thinking, shouldn't have to have them to post pictures on a board.

How did you ever post photos without using an image-hosting website?

And I don't understand why the resistance? They are quite simple to use, especially Photobucket ;)

No, because I use a photo-sharing site.

If I recall, you are limited to how much you can post to the forum if you add it as an attachment. Once you reach a certain point, you can't add more or are limited.

I used to be able to just click on the image, bring up "Properties" and copy/past that url (?) into the image box. Worked well for several years. I've never had an interest in photography, so I never saw any reason to get any of the storage services.

I guess that when you start your "own" forum, you can have people post the way you want to, but until then, it is their way. Accept it. The Fotki and Photobucket are the only WIDELY accepted form of photo-sharing at the current time.

When I first came here in 2011, I posted pictures direct from my PC. I liked it but, soon after it quit working. Guess I used up my space. Ever since then I have been using Photobucket free of charge. They changed their process once and I along with my photos were lost for a while. I agree it would be easier to copy photos direct from your PC if there is a way.

Are you talking per post or...? I used to find the best overall pic and post it, so that shouldn't have been a problem.

I think the issue you are talking about is w/ Google Image search....I have noticed also lately that most of images I find on Google image search have generated nonsense URLs--I try pasting the link here in in the image box and get a 'this file extension not allowed here' error...

As far as my own photos, I upload them to my Fotki account then link here without problems.

Sometimes your image size will affect whether or not it will load. And ,, if I want to post something from the web,,Ill download it to my desktop,,and upload to any site,,and I store ALL my pics that Ive taken with my camera{ models ect whatever} and after I load them to my puter,,Ill store them all on thumbdrive storage unit, and a CD ,as well as EVERYTHING on my puter,,just to have a backup in case the puter crashes,,not that it ever has,,but man you dont want to lose yrs of model pics, programs,,virus software,,ect,,ect.

Yeah, in the last few months I've been seeing a lot of the mile-long URLs & I wondered what that was all about. I've also gotten that same frustrating message almost every time, even with what appears to be "real" URLs.

Seems like the photo-hosting sites have their share of problems, too. Some time ago there was a major malfunction @ Photobucket, and more recently a lot of pictures on Fotki disappeared, albeit temporarily (?) - Not sure if it's all been resolved yet.

There are multiple methods of adding an image to a post, but there's no way a single forum can accommodate EVERY possible file extension (.jpg, .gif, etc.) and get them to work perfectly with the forum software. Same when using the attachment option for uploading images. There have to be size limits for each image, as well as the total volume uploaded by each member, or the forum could be overloaded due to the massive amount of storage space needed to support all of those images.

It's not hard to copy and paste an image url from either the web or a photohosting 'site such as Photobucket once you know the process, but again, not all image extensions (.jpg, etc) are supported/allowed, so there's some learning involved no matter which method you chose to use.

Like Casey said... uploading photos directly from your computer is not the way to do it. You'll soon use up all your allotted space here and it won't lest you post photos anymore.

The foolproof way to do it is to store your photos on an image storage site like Photobucket. That way you copy the Photobucket URL of the image and you past that URL here, and we see the photo here... but the actual photo itself is still sitting at Photobucket and not taking up space on this website.

Photobucket is free and works perfectly. I've used it for many years. There are many other photo hosting sites out there too... pick one, load your photos there, and then link to them here, do not upload them to this site. That's the secret.

So in your opinion this website should function as your own personal photo storage site? And by extension, everyone else's, too? That's not how it works. This site is not a photo hosting site, it's an online forum. We don't have the massive data storage capacity that a Photobucket or Fotki has. When you upload images to this site, you are extremely limited to the amount of data you are allowed to upload and basically "force" this site to store for you. That's why you should have an account with a photo hosting site like Photobucket, and let that site hold all of your images for you... and only post the links to your images here.

I have found that if put the picture on your desktop. Then resize it to the correct limits.you can add it to your post by using the option tab at the lower right.then choose file from desktop.then accept file.it will load it into the post.

I have abandoned uploading images to websites. Everyone has a different standard. I use Imgur, it uploads my photos and resizes them to whatever I choose, which is usually set for a 17" monitor. i have never had a mod complain anywhere. Site uploads always take forever.

Imgur.com has the fastest resizing I have ever used and it does ALL the photos as they are being uploaded. It's too easy.

If I am getting this right, whenever you post pictures directly from your PC to here without using a host sight like Photobucket or Fotki, you will quickly use up your alloted space. To continue loading pictures from your PC you would first be required to delete pictures already in your gallery found under your profile settings. This in turn would delete these photos from where you had them posted on the forum threads. Is that correct?

I think I will stick to copying my photos from Photobucket, even though it seems like an extra step it is nice to have a free host. Photobucket must be under the assumtion that some of us will order prints. I guess it is possible to order prints from someone else's Photobucket, if you wanted. I think you can copy images to your own PC from their albums.

Crazy world we live in!

Ron, correct. When you upload to here directly, you are uploading the image to this site, where it will now sit forever. On the other hand, if you simply post the URL link here of a photo that is sitting elsewhere (like in your Photobucket account), that image is visible here to us in your post, because the URL is a link that tells this site where to find the photo that you want displayed in your post here... but the data (the actual image) is still sitting on your photo hosting site's server and not taking up space here.
