Agent G Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I was on duty, eating an early lunch, when the police radio channels exploded into bits and pieces of mostly incoherent chatter. All I could understand at first was "Barnes Hospital ER" "block traffic" and then "officer shot". When we in the business hear this, we drop everything and I mean everything. If you are even remotely close, you go. Cops go, fireman go, medics go, hell even the trash trucks respond. I went. I arrived at the ER just in time to see one cop wheeled in having been shot twice. He was conscious and doing as well as could be expected. That kid recovered and is still a good hard charging copper. His partner PO Nicholas Sloan arrived next. Nick was DOA. I watched the kid grow up as his father was also a cop. He was the little PITA who spent every waking moment bothering the stink out of his sisters. A good kid full of spunk who always wanted to be a cop. He achieved his goal and was a good one at that. In two short years Nick proved he was just as good as any, making his Dad proud. Nick left a fiance and infant son who will never forget the memory of his father as long as any of us police officers are alive. As I left the ER I walked into the ambulance bay which was full of cops. I realized the majority were academy class mates of Nick. I had the priviledge of informing them of his departure. The suspect was dead on the scene having been taken care of by the seriously wounded partner. It wasn't the first time and wasn't the last either, but darnnit that was a hard one. G
FASTBACK340 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 My heart felt sympathy goes out to the Sloan family and Nick's friends. Anniversary's such as this are best acknowledged openly rather than being emotionally quiet. Condolences on a tragic day….
Danno Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Heartfelt prayers and condolences to Officer Sloan's family (blood and brethren, especially including you, my friend). Godspeed, Nick. You and your partner were truly American heroes. As you always say, G, . . .
1930fordpickup Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Wayne my condolences to the Sloan Family also.
JM485 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Wow, it really sucks to hear about someone killed in the line of duty. Some people just do not have any sense to do something like that. . .
Johnag4004 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Hi Wayne, My thoughts and deepest respect are with his family, colleagues and to you also Sir... Andy...
Greg Cullinan Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 It's a shame to die trying to earn a living, thoughts and prayers for his family.
1930fordpickup Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 While reading this post they were having a Funeral for two fire fighters in Toledo. It was a sad weekend for T-Town. Than when I read this after work it got a bit worse. Building-owner-charged-firefighters-murder, It turned out to be arson, this guy started an Apartment Building on fire with people living inside.
slusher Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I could not forget that myself G, thoughts and prayers for his family...
charlie8575 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 It very much reminds me of Officer Sean Collier, MIT Police, who was killed while trying to stop those wretched Tsarneyov Brothers last year after the Marathon Bombing. "Flashbang" and "Speedbump" as they've become known locally because nobody can spell or pronounce their first names, killed what from all accounts was a good man and was about to transition from MIT to the Sommerville Police. Flashbang will at least be on trial. Speedbump earned his nickname after Flashbang accidentally ran him over in a carjacked getaway car. May all those who gave all while serving the public be remember for all time. Charlie Larkin
martinfan5 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Adding my thoughts and prayers to the Sloan Family and never forget the brave man who gave his life protecting the citizens of the city
Agent G Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 Thank you all for keeping the family in your prayers on this painful anniversary. All of us retired folk made sure the new crop of blueshirts this year understood who he was and what he stood for. Charlie I found the murder of PO Collier to be perhaps one of the most senseless of the killings in 2013. While none "make sense" taken in context that one was painful. "Speedbump" and "Flashbang" eh? Fitting. G
martinfan5 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) I didnt/dont want to side track this thread, but this made remember the night a officer with Phoenix PD was shot and brought into the hopstial I was working at , that was a long night , I will save it for in person Edited February 2, 2014 by martinfan5
mnwildpunk Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 IMHO police, sheriff's, and the like do not get the respect they deserve. It is tragic when a member of one of those forces loses there life. My thoughts are going out the families of police men/women today
