cruz Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Thought I had to start a topic with that title. Anyway, here goes another review model which I don't think I ever shared here but I think it's safe to do now. Paint is Testor's Lacquer Fiery Orange. Don't like to use these metallic lacquer's much because I think the metallics are way out of scale so what I did was, after shooting the color and making sure it was dry, I shot a few coats of Testor's Dull Coat to kinda difuse the metallics a bit and tone them down. After this I finished up with Testor's Wet Look Clear. As many of you know, this is a curbside kit but it does look quite good after completion. What do you fellow glue sniffers think? Scalper Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Looks great... I am thinking of using that paint on my pro stock t-bird. thanks for the tip.
Burnout Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Looks nice Cruz. Paint, as always, is outstanding. Curious about the tailgate finish - is it paint or dullcoated chrome? Thanks.
Grumpa Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Beautiful JEEP Marcos, and thanks for the tips on the paint!
PappyD340 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I'll have to wait till my mind clears a bit from all the glue fumes before I can give a reputable opinion Seriously Marcos it looks FANTASTIC!! love the color.
Joker Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Cool work on the chassis Marcos. Lots of pop with the different metal colors and washes.
jrherald420 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I am building this kit right now, i almost painted it this color. Looks good!
blackandwhite Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I enjoyed the kit except for the fact that I didn't have the transfer case
jrherald420 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I wish i could find an extra rim and tire. There should be one on the tailgate or a roof rack.
o-man Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 You did show it under tips and tutorials for killing the flake with a flat clear. But it still looks great and great tip too!
Tom Geiger Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Very nice Cruz! That does seem to be the 'IT ' color on that kit! I was planning on doing mine the same until I saw a few already. So I decide on lime green and I go to my club meeting and there's a lime one sitting on the table! So I'm still thinking about color. A question. I really don't like the diamond plate on the back, is that standard for this model Jeep? And has anyone sanded it clean without affecting the other molded in details?
jrherald420 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 (edited) Tom sanding the plate off could be done but it would be a lot of work. The rear gate hinges, and taillight mounting boxes are a molded in detail that the plating buts right up to. Again it could be done but the sanding process would take longer. cruz Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 Yes Tom, as James explained, it would be a bit much work, not impossible but tedious. I did like the fact that the kit brings this part molded in.
